DeBeers actually bought diamond mines and shut them down to control the market.
The world’s biggest car graveyard is in Namibia, of all places.
Why? Because it is easy to secrete a diamond in a vehicle, so once a car enters De Beers Land, it never leaves.
The quality of man made diamonds have exceeded those of natural ones for years. Personally, I see no point whatsoever in preferring 'natural' diamonds.

Pretty much. I've known for years that diamonds were crap anyway. Fortunately my wife wasn't a fan either.

The owner of the pawn store told her that compared of investing in guns, diamonds has only 10% of the purchase price compared to 100% or more for guns. Plus guns are easily sold in many places.
Gold is an element. A diamond is a form of Carbon (an element) - just as Coal, graphite etc. are forms of carbon. Changing one form to another is doable - you change the atomic structure. But changing one element to another requires sub-atomic changes.
