What seems to be missing from every single discussion i’ve seen on tariffs [and i’ve seen a brazillion] is a simple comparison of financial impediments to trade.

It would be easy and meaningful to compare what happens to a car made in US sent to China vs a car made in China sent to the US. The comparison could be cars, pork, steel, or whatever. And the country could be China, Mexico, Canada, EU or whatever.

It boggles the mind that nobody [nobody i’ve seen] is making this rather simple presentation.

Such a presentation would show everyone that a) we’ve been in a trade war for decades just didn’t fight back and b) our impediments [tariffs] are just now getting even with the VATs, tariffs, etc of all these other countries... it’s NOT that we’re striking out at anyone to be spiteful... we’re striking to even the playing field.

President Trump makes the car comparison often at his rally’s.

You’re right, the comparison is stark.

It boggles the mind that nobody [nobody i’ve seen] is making this rather simple presentation.

The reason is that libertarians and Bushittes, like Rush Limbaugh et al, carried the globalist water for so many years and brain washed other wise normal conservatives into thinking "free trade" was a good thing when in fact it has been a disaster. Google the term gas-lighting for a greater understanding.

Yep. People forget that we won the Cold War by ramping up spending, knowing full well the Soviets could not keep up. And the rest is history.

Good post. The other thing missing from these discussions is the recognition of a fundamental problem facing every industrial nation: EXCESS CAPACITY.

Globally, we can produce far more manufactured products than we need. This has an underlying downward influence on the prices that we can charge for these products ... which puts high-wage countries at a basic competitive disadvantage.

Mexico's been an enemy of the United States for... forever. Build the wall higher and stronger... assume they'll attack in the future.

And 'broken' families?

Send them ALL back to Mexico until the youngest is over 21. Bye bye Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles, children, grandkids... whatever. SEND THEM ALL HOME... They don't want families seperated? WE AGREE.

I assume they meant to say that they RAISED tariffs on American goods because there are already tariffs.

This just means farmers will continue to hurt a little longer as this mess gets straightened out.

Those trade deals have been killing farmers and I look forward to new deals that don’t cripple the American farmer.

270% on dairy??? OMG

a gallon at kroger near atlanta is $3... it would be $8.10 in Canada? No wonder we don’t sell much milk up there.

Nafta is only FREE for Mexico and Canada, which is unfair but then they collude to pass through excess Chinese goods.

Why do feckless free traitors shake with fear at the mention of a trade war while showing no concern when spending multiple $Trillions of dollars on useless foreign wars based on faulty intelligence?
