President Trump, with his refusal to take advice or yield to experts, is the West Wing. Republicans who control both halves of Congress won't lift a finger against him and fully support his every move.
The big picture: With his chance to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, Trump may have fewer checks on his power than any president in his lifetime. (Trump was born in 1946, the year after FDR died in office, 72 years ago.)
Show less The media, normally the last check on a president with total control of government, has lost the trust of most Republicans and many Democrats, after two years of Trump pummeling.
An alumnus of the Bush 43 administration told me: "This president is facing fewer checks and balance than any president in recent history except perhaps George W. Bush after 9/11." Consider Trump's scorecard:
Trump will soon have the conservative Supreme Court that Republicans dreamed of for a lifetime. His one big legislative accomplishment a huge tax cut will silence business critics as long as hes around. Scott Reed of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce told me that for all the establishment skepticism of Trump, he "has united national security conservatives, social conservatives and economic conservatives." The Republicans who control the House and Senate have performed little real oversight and wont. Be smart: The 2018 elections matter exponentially more today than they did 24 hours ago.
If you're a Democrat who now can't digest breakfast, presidential historian Michael Beschloss has this solace:
"If you look at presidential power in terms of checks and balances, Donald Trump may feel as if he is riding high.

Any wall as such won’t fly. A great security system might.
“two years”? Get that red pen back out. :-)
Yeah...”fully support his every move.”
The writer is a blithering idiot. No president in history has had such little support from his own party. No just lack of support, but outright opposition from many.
There isnt enough popcorn on Earth for this show.
Oh the horror!!
I am not totally sure — they screamed him into some concessions on the “separated families” issue. His Christian support was threatening to bolt.
Ha. The Right never overplays its hand, to its detriment, and to the country’s detriment. “But bipartisanship!” “But we won’t always be in power!” “But we don’t need to play by their rules!” “But the American people will see that we are the better party!” Etc.
Isn't that the most preposterous statement ever? He is a true CEO. Takes input, weighs it, decides, and acts. No CEO I've known has "yielded to experts." If you do that, you aren't a CEO. The author clearly has no real world experience.
Rage has moved him over the top.
The question for the “Right” is whether either rage or gloating (both abominations to God) shall move them over the top too.
Considering said idiot's place of employment, I daresay that's why he was hired.
To its detriment... Or to its boon? God reigns. It’s folks like you who will threaten to dethrone Him and the result will be a hubristic loss.
Could it be an exaggeration of something that is “true in MOST cases.”
It is obvious that the writer is not very well schooled, the quality of his writing is pathetic.
In any case, putting the house in order is a good first step. We can keep a wary eye out for Satan while the cleanup is in progress.
That’s why POTUS is supporting the farmers, he wants them to grow vast amounts of un tariffed corn for us to enjoy while we observe The Greatest Show on Earth.
MAGA!
Hyperbole is used here. But doesn’t Donald himself use hyperbole? Hyperbole is often used as an idiom of warning about where the author fears affairs will go.
I doubt now that Donald actually will get a “bigly” advance on immigration. While progressives will have trouble progressing, they can and will throw sand in the political gears with gusto.
What if Satan is one of your broom pushers?
The “religious right” has long crowed about America being a “Christian country.” Well, perhaps its high flying, bible-echoing ideas of rights have proven pearls before modern swine. And you will not be able to go far without this “religious right” either.
Greatest show as in circus or as in something holier?
I guess I don’t have the ability to look into a person’s heart and pass judgment on their mortal souls based on that. Its true that we can see what they do and evaluate those actions in terms of religious precepts. As to how far I can go with or without the support of a particular voting bloc, I don’t know, we’ll have to see. Aside from avoiding having this thread degenerate into a religious pissing contest, my main focus will be to do what we can to change the direction of the country, because the course set by Clinton and Obama, without correction by G. W. Bush, was looking pretty bleak. DJT has a chance to right the ship (politically speaking, the devil can stuff it) and IMO we should support that.
“And how often in history has a President been opposed by a majority of the voters with the intensity of the current national opposition to Trump?”——from the article
This guy is another loon.
