I used to not wear seat belts until I was shown a safety video one day at work entitled “Room To Live”. The video featured a man telling you the stories of what happened to the people sitting in the seat that he was sitting in a wrecked car from the junk yard. In every case, the people died BECAUSE they were not wearing their seat belts. At the end of each story, the camera would pan back to show him sitting where they had sat and would say “As you can see, they had room to live”. The car is designed to protect you in a wreck, if you can only stay inside of it. I have worn my seat belts ever since.

These marks were most likely the result of the limo being dragged out by the tow truck.

That’s a good photo angle, you can see the car basically ran into the embankment head on and stopped immediately.

Car easily could have been at over 60mph, so stopping dead would cause the passengers to fly forward at extreme force.

Probably not, but that does not explain 100% kill rate. Despite the statist propaganda wherein every accident assuredly has media rushing to state “was” or “wasn’t” IF the preferred condition occurred, the chances of everyone dying is very slim.

My husband posited the theory of exhaust into the car, which might explain why 100% died - already dead? Indeed, I saw it was a 2001 and wondered about brakes, etc, but the floorboard/exhaust would also be in question and possibly offer why so many died.

Really can’t wait to see the report on this one.

Fling your body at 30 miles per hour into a brick wall.. or To put it in a better perspective... 30 MPH is the speed you are going when you hit the ground if you jumped off a 6 story building....

How many people do you think survive falling 60 feet?

at 40 MPH you are closing in on a 10 story fall.

If that car hit something and came to a dead stop, everyone in the passenger compartment unbuckled is basically doing the exact same thing as that...

But that doesn’t mean they knew it was in that condition. But the leasing company sure as heck knew.

Totally FUBAR.

When I heard that it crashed into a restaurant I figured most of the casualties would not have been inside the limo. That thing had to be flying out of control. and its huge and heavy. Incapacitated driver? Screwed up intersection?

Celebration instantly turned into tragedy. Way too many unanswered questions. No reports of any extreme muslem religious claims before impact? Wanna blame it on something but I’m just praying.

Brakes are just some of what has aged and worn out underneath.

Suspension - might try that myself.
Transmission - needs rebuild.
Steering box rebuild needed.

40 MPH is about the equivalent of falling off a 10 story building...

People really don’t understand the forces at play at speed, because we travel in cars all the time at far greater speeds, and seat belts and safety features make those higher speeds survivable...

BUt like I said, how many people do you know that have walked away from a 10 story fall? at highway speeds 60MPH for example you are at the equivalent of jumping off an 18 story building....

When hubby was Captain at our county fire dept. he and his firefighter were in the patrol on a call. Police were chasing a car with 4 people in it when the car ran a stop sign and broad sided hubby’s side of the patrol. All 4 people in the car were killed. Hubby and his firefighter were both wearing sear belts. They both wound up with huge bruising from the seat belts and hubby had a broken back that they found later with an MRI. But they both lived.

I think the standard these days are aluminum.

No rust, but still a soft metal that does oxidize, only slower than steel.

Just looking at the hill they were going down, it stretches for a couple of miles. You would have to be on the brakes the entire way down, and if the brakes fail, there is absolutely no hope of stopping.

I'm guessing the driver had a heart attack or something.

That's one possibility. The NY State Medical Examiner's Office will do a full autopsy on every victim. And that would include a full toxicology screening.

Steep hill, car with weight like this would have easily picked up speed in excess of 60mph. Only two things here, unfamiliar driver missed stop sign on bright afternoon day (maybe distracted?) Or total and complete catastrophic brake failure.

I replaced the brake lines in my 02 Silverado last month. They just crumbled from the rust. The driver probably jammed the brakes as hard as he could and a line broke from the pressure
