South Park issues rare apology for 'ManBearPig' skewering of Al Gore

The creators of the show “South Park” have issued a rare apology, reprising the character ManBearPig to make amends for a dis that is more than a decade old.

In a 2006 episode during season 10 of the animated series, Al Gore issues a stern warning to the students of South Park Elementary School about the “single biggest threat to our planet.” He was talking about ManBearPig, a creature meant to represent climate change...

“South Park” was effectively mocking the global issue at the center of “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Now, 12 years later, show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have orchestrated a mea culpa.

In this week’s episode, "Time to Get Cereal," the children discover Gore was right all along when the character Stan sees an attack. They seek Gore's help, which he provides, but not before they apologize for not taking him seriously years ago.

They’d better not apologize to Barbra Streisand for the Mecha-Streisand episode.

Nope. In fact they were pro-banning Apu as well this season:

OK, so what happened after they apologized? The article doesn’t say. Was it authentic or a setup for future ridicule?

I didn’t see it. So they aren’t making fun of all this nonsense?

“The classic Fox cartoon was under fire earlier this year for the character of Apu, with some calling it a racist depiction and demanding he be changed or eliminated.
Simpsons brass made it clear neither would happen.”

I thought they got rid of Apu?

Saw it, didn’t take it as an apology.

That scene too was sarcasm and funny. At least I thought it was a funny episode.

Its a satire show.

I quit it a while back. The gay tinker bell cupid angel, all the little gay children and the peeing on each other did it for me. It was always a really weird, gay show, but the funny stuff was good. It’s ghastly, awful, and way too gay.

They really went easy on Manbearpig. So now they have to grovel just for criticizing a Democrat.

my interpretation is that man bear pig is voter fraud... and the deal that brought Man bear pig was the deal between the Clintons and the bush family that allowed the Bushes to be in the Whitehouse.

I think we will see in the next episode that Stan’s grandpa and the rest of the old folks were the one who were manning the polling in the last election. they made a deal with man bear pig to prevent Trump and pence from becoming president and so we ended up with president Garrison and vice president Jenner. this is the same type of deal deal that led to vice president gore not being president and George bush jr becoming president. the boys end up getting rid of the deal and garrison goes back to being there teacher and suddenly it is Donald trump who is president

The funniest thing about this thread is that people are taking South Park seriously.

I didn't see a real "apology" to the ridiculous Algore character either in this episode. Stupid NBC article.

I wonder if it is a sly take on the Simpsons getting rid of Apu.

The Simpsons got rid of Apu?? We haven't watched that show in ages. How PC / leftist is it now?

I can only imagine the story lines on the leftist Simpsons since Trump came on the scene!

>> I’m behind on South Park but I’ll have to watch this and see for myself. <<

I remember the original episode was hillarious. "Ummmm...Is that some kind of pig bear man...?" Algore: "No, stupid. It's Manbearpig."

But yeah, I'll have to see it for myself to know if they grovel to Algore. I remember some conservative groups claiming the song "Let It Go" in Frozen was a blatant attempt to promote the gay agenda and encourage kids to "come out of the closet" as gay. Then I actually watched the movie and there was zero gay propaganda and "Let It Go" could be construed as ANYTHING.

On the other hand, after I saw the live action "Beauty and the Beast", they DEFINITELY made Gaston's little sidekick a flaming homo, though this would most likely go over the heads of little kids watching. More problematic was the "color blind casting" where we're supposed to believe there were a bunch of interracial couples in 18th century France. That, and the fact they missed the opportunity to cast Henry Cavill as the live action Gaston. He was born the play the role!
