I may not be an investment "guru", but I have done OK. Personally I would not invest for or against SA -- ever.
SA has been and will continue to be a political football and various governments will try various bailouts, all for reasons which may well defy conventional logic. I am certain there is money to be made, but it is going to be like having a front row seat for an elephant fight. There is a good chance that you can get squashed without anyone having any bad intentions toward you.
I am going to hide in the tall grass and watch this fight from a distance. There are plenty of investment opportunities in the good old US of A without taking on the risk associated with political stability in Africa.
OTOH if you can name a dozen people who profited from the conversion of Rhodesia into Zimbabwe and get their advice you may come out ahead. I sure can't name anyone in that category other than local government officials.

If De Beers released all the diamonds they have locked away, diamonds would be worth as much as cut glass. Creating synthetic diamonds is another way to flood the market with cheap, worthless ‘diamonds’.

The only intelligent move, IMHO. The small dog waits while the lions and the hyenas feed. SA's financial collapse will be carefully orchestrated and if you're not one of the crooks, you're one of the targets. It will not be a natural, predictable financial phenomenon and it won't obey any rules.
