California nuns embezzled $500,000 for trips to Las Vegas, officials say

A pair of California nuns allegedly embezzled $500,000 from tuition and other school funds and used it to pay for gambling trips to Las Vegas, church officials said Monday.

The duo allegedly kept their scam going for about a decade, pilfering from Saint James Catholic School in Torrance, located 26 miles south of Los Angeles, Archdiocese of Los Angeles media relations director Adrian Alarcon said.

School officials told parents the women stole $500,000, according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

Sister Mary Margaret Kreuper was the school’s principal and Sister Lana Chang taught eighth-grade students. Both retired earlier this year and neither has been charged with a crime.

In a letter to parents, Monsignor Michael Meyers called the amount of money stolen “substantial.”

“This matter came to our attention during financial reviews in connection with the change in leadership at our school,” adding no one else was implicated in the alleged embezzlement scheme.

Meyers said the school had always operated in the black, making things less suspicious, according to the Press-Telegram. The fraud wasn't discovered until the school conducted a routine audit of Kreuper ahead of her retirement from the school after 28 years.

When all is said and done, it could be up to $1 million. I think they should be prosecuted, and jailed. They can do a nice little prison ministry, from the inside.

This is local news for us, as we are in Torrance. Parishioners are appalled at the “let us handle this internally” approach.

In California, only the government gets to steal people’s money. That’s about a town council man’s yearly salary.

Many, many years ago, I was a car rental agent at Miami Intl. Airport. Every year when Hialeah opened we were inundated with priests, in mufti, from all over the east and midwest.

As a teen in the mid-70s I worked at Hialeah Park. That was when it was a horse racing track. I was there for part of the winter season of 75, or 76? Around this same time of the year. Me and the outfit I worked for were from Belmont Racetrack in New York (trainer P.G. Johnson, number two in the standings at the time, now in the Racing Hall of Fame). It was weird spending Christmas in a tropical climate.

I guess if they were on a “mission from God” they would have won.

Compared the constant bombardment of stories of homo priests diddling little boys, this is pretty tame.

Lol! No, but I and a few coworker friends actually raced on the turf course! As tiring at it was I couldn't help laughing the entire way around. Especially when we entered the home stretch with the grandstand on the right. It was early morning, so they were empty, but still, it was funny as hell. And also a dream come true for me, always having wanted to be a professional jockey.

for large pictures, add the following to your image posts:

To set a fixed size, add width="xxx" where xxx is the width in pixels. (500 usually works well for most memes.)

To set a variable size that automatically grows or shrinks according to the window size, add width="xx%" where xx is the percentage of the width of the window. (50% usually works well for most memes.)

Thus, <img src="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f9/28/3c/f9283c05788b04007902bd488d82b925.jpg" width="500"< you get the following:

and with <img src="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f9/28/3c/f9283c05788b04007902bd488d82b925.jpg" width="50%"< you get the following:

If you resize the window bigger or smaller, the second image will resize itself to match.
