The geezer that attacked an ICE facility in WA had a ghost gun.

The dirt-bag lunatic geezer's name was Van Spronsen. His greatest contribution to his country (besides getting himself killed without hurting anyone else in the process) was probably being given a memorable name. Any time I hear about some Left-wing whacko attacking someone, I plan to say, "Oh, that's just another enviro-Nazi going Van Spronsen!", or maybe, "Guess they got too much crazy-@ss input from the Squad, and went Van Spronsen!"

The possibilities are endless!

He’s hailed as a hero by the local Antifa chapter. May they have many more such heroes.

I’d rather goad them by calling him their John Birch.

It will change depending on which DOJ employee you talk to.

LEOs know lots less than the average gun enthusiast, but they are in control.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with those two sentences. I can tell you that from personal experience. I was a cop in Georgia, one of the most gun friendly states around. At that time, the gun laws were a bit “left to the interpretation to the reader”, ie the cops. My buddies and I would argue quite often about how to enforce them. The ‘gun guys’ were very liberal in their interpretation. The guys that weren’t ‘gun guys’ were a bit more conservative in their interpretation. For example, you didn’t need a CCW to have a pistol in your car, but where you put it in your car was an issue. But, cars were considered an “extension of your home”, where there were no rules. So, did the driver have to have it exposed, could he keep it between the seats, in the glove box, in the console, loaded vs unloaded?

The issue, IMHO, is that they love throwing the ambiguity in there. If they set actual limits, then folks will know how to deal with them and work within those guidelines in a legal and defensible manner. It takes away the governments ability to target those they deem undesirable. It forces them to target a particular individual and acknowledge the fact that they are Warren/Sanders follower that supports all the Leftists goals.

Eventually, someone in the state government had some sense(imagine that), offered and passed some amendments clarifying most of the ambiguity in the laws and now it’s pretty clear cut. But, then again, the state government in Georgia isn’t out to make the citizens felons in the same way those commies in Cali seem to want, for now.

Yeah, Calif seems to hit someone in each town, for things that most folks get by with.

So everyone is in an unsettled state, fear and trepidation.

I think it was Mao so said, “Kill one monkey to scare ten.”

Mix that in with late breaking Google treason, Epstein’s Arkinside, Portland Riots letting off Antifa, Red Flag, etc. and us remaining monkeys ARE affected, even though we are informed of the real stories (via FR, and associated links).

Not exactly. You can buy an 80% unfinished receiver, drill the holes, and mill it out for the trigger group, etc without an FFL being involved. Then, you finish the gun with a parts kit, an upper and whatever accessories you want. You can build your own gun for your use only, no serial number and it is never to be transferred. You can’t sell it legally.

It’s a bitch with just a drill press! Easy with a mill however.

I do not believe that is true.

At some point, it simply becomes another personal possession that can be sold, like any other.

The regulation is on manufacturing for commercial sale, without a license, or on selling commercially, not on private sales.

The BATFE has ruled, for many years, that after a firearm is in a private collection for more than a year, it may be sold privately.

Technically you may be right. Trying to prove how long it was a finished firearm is problematic, so my recommendation is that it’s for personal use never to transfer

Are Firearms without Serial Numbers Illegal?

The article linked above is worth reading.

FTA: "There’s another possible scenario in which there is no serial number, and that is in the case of a home build. As of late, there has been a 80% or 60% receiver complete craze. In these particular cases, the gun cannot be sold or transferred and must only be for the manufacturer’s own personal use. If it is a home build manufactured by yourself, using your own equipment, for your own personal use, no serial number is required.

Although not required, BATFE has stated: " . . . we suggest that the manufacturer at least identify the firearm with a serial number as a safeguard in the event that the firearm is lost or stolen. Also, the firearm should be identified as required in 27 CFR 478.92 if it is sold or otherwise lawfully transferred in the future.'

Again, this is simply a suggestion and not a legal requirement."

So, you have a firearm that is legal for you to own/possess. However, it is illegal for anyone else to own/possess that firearm.

The buyer is definitely committing a crime by taking possession of a firearm without a serial number. As to whether the seller would be committing a crime, the law is unclear. Personally, I would not risk it.

>>>They are sold primarily to private individuals that want to make their own firearm, which is a completely legal activity<<<

Not for long. This Moron just handed the Left another talking point, especially after using it to kill a Police Officer.

I think you are mistaken. It is not a crime to possess or purchase a firearm without a serial number, if the firearm was legally manufactured without a serial number.

There are millions of firearms in the USA that have been legally manufactured without a serial number. Most .22 rifles and many shotguns made before 1968 were legally manufactured without serial numbers.

State laws may vary; but I do not believe there is any federal law making it illegal to possess or buy a gun that was legally manufactured without a serial number.

Of course, it is very simple to get a set of stamps, or an engraving tool, and add a serial number if you wish to do so.

From the article at the link:

Because of the long-standing serial number requirements, a LAGO should definitely expect to see them on firearms. While the lack of a serial number might be shocking at first, and is certainly a legitimate cause for concern, it doesn’t always render the gun illegal. If you encounter a firearm without a serial number, be sure to consult with professionals to ensure that the firearm is legal to possess.
The elephant in the room is: was the firearm originally required to have a serial number? If it was not originally required to have a serial number, it is not required to have one in the future, as per the BATFE.

It is not a crime to possess or purchase a firearm without a serial number, if the firearm was legally manufactured without a serial number.

I have done some further research (link to follow). I believe your statement above only applies to firearms legally manufactured before 1968. It does not apply to firearms manufactured after 1968 by an individual for their personal use then subsequently sold.

...Illegally Manufacturing and Selling Assault Rifles...

From the link above: "According to federal law, a person may manufacture a firearm for personal use without including a serial number on the firearm, provided that the firearm is not sold or transferred to another person. Otherwise, to manufacture a firearm requires a license from ATF. A firearm that is transferred to another person must bear a serial number." Note: above link is from atf.gov.

In my previous response, I stated that the seller is not committing a crime. I retract that statement.

“The lower receiver is serial numbered and requires an FFL (Feral Firearms license) to purchase.”

Wrong.
