Fox 35 in Orlando said the W. edge of the storm is getting frayed which shows the high is no longer smoothing it out and is weakening. All conditions are there to make the turn and he said it will happen between tomorrow afternoon and midnight. He also said the storm will remain off the coast by 70 miles based upon the current track.
They’re showing Man-O-War Cay, on FNC, right now. Very similar images.
Like splintered matchsticks.
Prayers.
Bahamas are very close to US. Perhaps undersea cable.
No clue.
Cool. I hadnt thought of that. Thx.
Fixer Uppers :-)
Man on WFTV was asked if he is evacuating. “The wife’s leaving. The dog’s leaving. And I’m staying home with the cat!”

By the way, while Im at it, let me take a moment to personally thank you for your hurricane threads. In my family, Im the safety contact. I live in Indiana, my family is all over the state in Florida, When their power goes out, Im their contact. A couple of years ago, or was it just last year(?), I got help and advice on your threads on where and how to get help for family in the aftermath of Irma, I think it was Irma, but seriously, life has been tough in a number of ways, so Im not sure if that is the right storm name. No matter, you and other FReepers offered great information for me and my family. It was an intense time. Please accept my thanks and gratitude for what you do, what you have done, and what you continue to do.
Ha! You and the dog go, hon, I’ll stay here with the cat.
From personal experience....why stay behind for days/weeks of potentially NO POWER???
We’ve been there, done that.
During Ike, I packed up and left....with kiddos and pets. Hubby chose to stay behind....and suffered through TWO WEEKS of no power. Had windows open, only to be treated to the smell of neighbor burning downed trees (great timing, neighbor!) and the sound of generators and saws buzzing.
In the meantime, kids and I (and pets :) were cool as cucumbers at our lake place, a couple of hundred miles away.
Fast forward to Harvey....I had stuff packed up and ready to go....hubby took a look and didn’t hesitate to say he was going, too.
It’s just no fun sitting in heat w/no air, power, internet, etc. We’re fortunate to have a neighbor who could care less if he showers, or not....has power, or not. He kept on eye on things and let us know when our roads (back in to our neck of the woods) were clear and water had subsided. We were blessed that we didn’t flood...just had high water that made roads impassable. We (post Ike) have a generator that never stopped. It was the high water, in our surrounding area, that would’ve been a complete hassle, had we stayed. Have several friends who, sadly, did flood. Terrible experience to go through.
AgendaFree reports from Bahamas:
7 year old boy is first known casualty, his sister is missing.
[Likely, this will be repeated many times, due to the severity of this storm.]
Thank you for your kind thoughts. These threads are only as good as the outstanding contributions by all of the good FReepers providing useful info and local updates. This is definitely a group effort.
