Fort Worth police announced at a news conference Monday that the officer who shot and killed a woman in her home Saturday has resigned.
Interim Police Chief Ed Kraus identified the officer as Aaron Dean, a man who has served about 18 months with the Fort Worth police. Kraus said he was going to fire the officer had he not resigned Monday morning.
Kraus said a criminal investigation is ongoing and he expects to release an update by Tuesday. The FBI also has been briefed to investigate possible civil rights violations, he said.

“Im guessing it means the person (and I do feel bad) who was shot was black.”

I think that “violated civil rights” could apply no matter the race, in that all people have certain rights against mistreatment that LE needs to observe.
NBC was pushing it earlier. White cop and black victim.
MSM loves to stir up the racial angle.
The civil rights violation was being deprived of life and liberty and protection without due process
“Or, it could just mean that one has a civil right not to be shot by an agent of the government if one is doing nothing wrong or even suspicious.”

Yup. An officer can’t just start wailing on someone with their nightstick for no reason would be another example.
This must be 'cause the corrupt bastards have nothing better to do ?
Charge him with whatever it takes to get the death penalty because that is what he deserves.
Im guessing it means the person (and I do feel bad) who was shot was black.
Or it could be that a citizen has the civil right to be in their own home and not be shot by the police.
I’m generally supportive of the police, but this was a bad shoot.
Yup, you can't take the cops version of events as the truth. Not after getting caught red handed like this.
.
This is what happens when departments take two years of worthless college classes over street smarts and common sense. A cop that kills someone in this situation must really want to know what it feels like to shoot someone or they are too scared to handle the job. A person who becomes a police officer has to be willing to accept that they will be putting their life in danger at times. This cop wasn’t even willing to accept any danger at all.
There have been some outrageous police shootings across the country over the past few years, that poor guy crawling up the hall begging for his life springs immediately to mind.
But, this guy should stay away from his windows, it’s likely to get ugly.
That’s all I can say.
In original report he was described as white
I live outside of Dallas. This was murder. Any way you slice it. Its worse than Amber Guyger! Im hoping hes charged for the death of this woman!
Nobody keeps their front door wide open. Nobody. Unless you have a screen door, which is not the case here.
Plenty of dirt poor people in the hot south leave all sorts of windows and doors open.
Well then, I guess it was perfectly fine for some trigger-happy Barney Fife to blow a woman away through her own window without even knocking or announcing his presence up to that point, huh.
Who knows? They she could have walked in with groceries earlier and never noticed she didn’t close the door. Or the kid left it open, doesn’t matter, a simple knock would have cleared everything up.
A few crucified HR bureaucrats will cut off the supply of new sociopaths in police departments nationwide.
No way he beats the rap on this one.
I love all of the Monday morning quarterbacks on this board who appeared to be so anti-police. My understanding of this case is that the police got a call from a neighbor indicating that the door to the home was wide open. 20 minutes later, the police arrived and the door was still wide open. Obviously, the police officers suspected that a burglary was in progress. Since nobody keeps their front door wide open for 20+ minutes, especially in a high crime neighborhood at 2:30 in the morning, I certainly can understand why the officers believed that a burglary may have been occurring. Finally, apparently the victim was carrying a handgun when the officer observed her through the window. The cop was probably startled by seeing a person with a gun a few feet away from him and pulled the trigger. Im not suggesting that the victim was at fault. However, this case may be more negligence than a crime committed by the police officer.
