The interesting thing about this in regards to coronavirus is I read that in many elderly patients, the malaria drug combined with doxy (as opposed to a z-pack) seemed to work very well and did not pose the risk of a z-pack to the heart (evidently common with elderly people and z-pack usage). It made me think immediately of the heartworm treatment.
Yes, it is used for heartworms and all kinds of parasites in horses, sheep, cattle, and pretty much everything else. I have plenty of it on hand. It’s also used to treat mange in dogs, among other things.
Not taking heart guard, but Ivermectin for humans is the same as Ivermectin for dogs. It takes almost none. For example, I give a 75 pound Malinois 1.5 ml of .05% Ivermectin for heartworm prevention. Just to be clear, that’s 5/100 of a percent Ivermectin mixed with food grade propylene glycol.

I’ve probably ingested enough paste ivermectin to be safe from coronavirus from giving it to numerous horses and having them blow it back in my face.
Where is this ivermectin med made?
Ivermectin is internal and I didn’t want to do that unless the external failed. Since it worked, I didn’t use the ivermectin and never got around to reselling it on eBay. The DuraMectin (brand name for ivermectin) box says “Removes worms and bots with a single dose. Contents will treat up to 1250 lb body weight ANADA# 200-326, approved by FDA”.
So you could do the math and eyeball the percentage. A gram scale wouldn’t work because the amount is so small. You’d need a 1/10 gram scale. Or you could mix the entire tube in something weighing 94g and use grams equal to the percentage. But that might waste the rest of the tube unless it keeps (you’d have to research) and you refrigerated it for used multiple doses (you’d have to research that too).
You should also do a thorough online search of people who’ve done this to find out the dosage and risks, and if it’s a one-time dose or maybe smaller periodic doses.
The box I have has a 2018 expiration date so I’d have to research if it’s still effective and riskier than CV.

Nope; they have to keep your dogs for almost 2 weeks and a lot of drug treatment during that period.
Even when you get them home you have to keep them in the house for another 30 days, no running, no playing, no high exercise type of activities.
Only go outside for pottie trips while on a leash, short walks, no excitement.
The existing heartworms have to die and break down into the blood stream, then get flushed out of their system slowly.
Real pain in the neck and the wallet, but my boys and girls are worth it.
It is; and not having to worry about your little boys and girls is more than worth the cost.
Both my little girls were still on the younger side (5 and 8 years respectively) and went through a pretty aggressive treatment and a month long convalescence.
Well worth the price of the Heartguard and the vet costs to have them with me when I am working out in the fields or woods.
All 6 of my delinquents are rescue dogs and all are great additions to the family.
