Make Northern Michigan a separate state too.
What taxes are they paying without representation? If they’re not a state they aren’t paying state taxes. They pay city taxes because they are a city which is controlled by city officals that they elected. And as far as I know they are represented in the US Congress who is responsible for federal taxation. So what exactly is their beef?

That is exactly what I was thinking.
I think the mistake they made was to not do this when they controlled the House, WH, and the Senate in 2009. They should do this the next time this happens. Even though it is un-Constitutional, John Roberts will call it a tax and let it go.

I'd think it would, given that it is a federal district to ensure the federal government not be owned by any single state.
There aren’t many poor people in DC. It’s all being “re-vitalized”. There are either very rich people or those remaining poor who live in public housing projects. The poor types you see at these protests / rallies are the Baby boomer generation hippies and liberal elites who have actually become stinking rich working for the federal government ( my neighborhood is swarming with them and all Proudly showcasing their BLM , Hate Has No Home Here and Biden yard signs) and their Offspring who living in their basement. They just have horrible hygiene and fitness and wear grungy clothes so they simply look like they are homeless.
Why would the name include the word “Washington”?
They’re already agitating to tear down the Washington Monument because he was a “slaveholder”.
Compromise and give the non-federal areas to Maryland if they truly believe their own "no taxation without representation" spiel. Except that's not what this is about, it's about two new Democratic U.S. Senators.
Disallow all residential use in DC. Commercial or rental use only. FedGov retains all title to the land on which the buildings stand. That’s the deal. If you don’t like it, move along.
D.C. will never join Maryland as it would cost the people of DC three Electoral Votes.

The First Amendment of the Constitution is very explicit about keeping The District of Columbia independent. All the Dems want are the two electoral college votes it would give them if DC became a State.
One-house bill. DOA in the Senate.
