Thanks for the heads-up, though. We do keep our seeds in dated paper envelopes. Enough to plant our entire yard twice.

The brass won’t— they’ll side with the neo-communists. But they may find that when they give orders for military intervention, almost no one will obey, and base commanders giving orders to assault conservative Americans may find themselves ignored, thrown in the brig or shot by their own men. The Joint Chiefs decide on strategy, the generals on operations, but the NCOs decide what, if anything, actually gets done.

Yep. They have Rangers, Green Beanies, SEALs and others too. Some of these types of folks might jump in just for the sake of having nothing else better to do. Some will take it as a challenge to train up American guerrilla forces.

I think this will look more like the movie The Purge at first. Roving bands of militia (from both sides) everywhere for a long while, killing everything that doesn’t look like them.

After that the no-go zones will be established and it’ll cool off. How our government and Industries survive that... I have no clue. One side might have to be truly decimated.

The Navy Nuclear Submarine program will never be in “disarray”. It’s not an option in that world. Any enemy attack would be a very bad idea.

I think the difference between what we have now and a proper “war” is that every killing isn’t going to be adjudicated to death in a war. Now, if you defend yourself with a firearm, even if you don’t shoot anyone, you get indicted, your firearm is confiscated, and you have to appeal to ever higher powers to get some leniency. In a hot war, people get shot, many offensively, and we go about our business killing more of the opponent with nary an eye blink.

I’m assuming the Navy will remain more or less intact. They can control the information being received by ships at sea. The submariners in particular (especially in the SSBNs) won’t know anything. Air Force strategic forces are unlikely to be engaged domestically, unless someone is foolish enough to try to steal a nuke. Russia would probably immediately threaten Europe, but the US mainland is still relatively remote.

I have some I used on some applesauce one year just to try them out and see how long they’d last.

You don’t think those States will start looking for help with money and supplies (weapons, food) if the break from the rest of the country? Who could be the one entity that steps in to “help” these States? China! China is doing it in other countries on other continents as we speak. They would jump at the chance of getting a foothold in this area of the world, as they have been trying for years!
