I never doubted the police arrested the right guy. But, if he doesn’t plead guilty, what excuse can he make for the DNA evidence?
It sounds like he might claim he was set up.
When police asked why he kept visiting Idaho, he answered that he likes the shopping better there.
So, his excuse for the car trips will be that he was only driving. After all, it’s not illegal to drive around, right?
He also asked police if they’d arrested anyone else...
One of the surviving roommates heard a male voice say, “It’s okay. I’m going to help you.”
He might claim that was his voice. Maybe he’ll claim that he followed the “real killer” and that he tried to help, but he was too late.
Or maybe he’ll plead guilty. We’ll see.
He appears to have shut it off for the attack. That was beforehand.
so how could one of the roomates witness someone wearing a mask leaving the home at 4 am?

Mortensen, who lived on the first floor, said she had fallen asleep but was awakened around 4 a.m. when “she heard who she thought was Goncalves say something to the effect of ‘there’s someone here.’”
She opened her door, but couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Mortensen then “opened her door a second time when she heard what she thought was crying coming from Kernodle’s room,” according to the police report.
In a spine-shivering detail, the report added Mortensen “then said she heard a male voice say something to the effect of ‘It’s ok, I’m going to help you.’”
...
A police affidavit reads: “[Mortensen] saw a figure clad in black clothing and a mask that covered the person’s mouth and nose walking towards her.
“Mortensen described the figure as 5′ 10″ or taller, male, not very muscular, but athletically built with bushy eyebrows. The male walked past [her] as she stood in a ‘frozen shock phase.’
“The male walked towards the back sliding glass door. Mortensen locked herself in her room after seeing the male.”
May have been to protect the witness as the killer was still on the loose.
Why police weren’t called until around noon?, though doesn’t make sense.
Original story had both roommates on the first floor.
However now the truth is out that one of them had a room on the second floor and saw the perp. wearing a mask before 5AM.
911 call not made until around noon.
exactyly, was more like 11:58 AM
Not an ordinary public defender. This one, Ann Taylor is a legend for reversing a murder conviction and the Idaho cop being charged.
Already has had a team of investigators at the crime scene taking photos.
The dad flew to Seattle.
His mother is a Democrat.
Original story was relative and 23 and me.
This changed to DNA from garbage outside parents’ home days after Christmas.
His mother being a democrat isn’t enough - she would have to give big money to ‘the party’.
I’ve been thinking there might have been some confusion about the numbering of floors in this house, what some have called the ground floor could be the second floor opening up to the front and back entrances, and there may be an actual basement with no living quarters down below, then just one floor above the “ground” or second floor depending on how you number them. As to where the various students were at the time of the intrusion, that seems to be clearly laid out in the document in the Fox news link, but note page two of that is redacted probably due to sensitive details about the scene.
The supporting affidavit has some points that will need to be clarified at trial, for example, it states that a “door dash” delivery to one of the four victims (the girl with a boyfriend) occurred almost during the time frame of the assaults. Assuming that was not also the perp, then this door dash driver might have seen something relevant to the case (such as the white Elantra near the house).
I also read somewhere else that small amounts of money were being sent on line just before that delivery involving two friends of the male student killed, and that suggests to me that those two friends might have lived nearby and were sharing in the door dash food delivery, so perhaps they were close by within minutes of the assaults too.
My own interest in this is partly because I live in a very similar place to Moscow ID and not that far away, and it is something you would not really expect to happen here either.
The overt evil of serial killers fascinates many, I think. We all recognize in ourselves a degree of original sin and the potential to do bad things, but at the same time, killing significant numbers of absolute strangers just seems entirely alien, as if some “other” type of human from some darker past still exists. And we see this undisguised evil in a number of other places, sometimes in the highest realms of our society, except that there, a rationalization is both offered and accepted. These serial killers are no different in offering the rationalizations, but almost always they are not accepted. Also what fascinates me is how often these serial killers blend in and are not suspected even by people close to them, let alone those with more casual interactions (such as fellow students in this case, or business associates in some other well-known past cases).
As you may have read, police did rule out Kohberger as a possible suspect in a 2021 home invasion and stabbing of a couple in Oregon, which had similar details (one died, the other has recovered from wounds). But I’m not convinced he should be ruled out, unless they have clear evidence he was nowhere near the Pacific northwest at the time.
Would also not be too surprised to find that some cold cases elsewhere become active investigations once his movements can be better documented over the past five or so years. This would be an unusually bold first offense.
As to the accused saying he hoped to be exonerated, that sounds very dubious given the mountain of circumstantial evidence pointing in his direction. It may speak to his mental state more than anything else, but I understand Idaho has much less lenient “insanity defense” clauses than many states, so he may be wasting his time there.

Just saw a report on faux that displayed a detailed time line including this witness encounter with the bushy eye browed male wearing a mask.
Iirc, this was all happening around 4 am +/-
Also included on the time line a short time earlier, it identified an uber eats delivery to the house.
I don’t remember hearing of an uber eats delivery to one of the surviving residents
Has anyone heard of a witness statement from the uber driver??
The delivery at 4:00 am was doordash rather than uber eats

At one time, one’s garbage can contents were Constitutionally-protected. (”Curtilege” becomes an important word).
Bryan was trying to get rid of the car and as far away from that area as he could. I'll bet $100 they planned to sell it in PA

so the old man was complicit in misprision of a felony & conspiracy to cover it up?
I find the girl survivor who came face to face with masked killer just look at her and walk by without killing her odd. She went back in her bedroom and locked the door and didn’t call anyone for 6 hours. Is she in on it? Remember the killer asked did you arrest anyone else when he was arrested.
Yes, she is complicit.
