Why would you wait 2 1/2 years to sign, and then announce a plea deal you made in January 2021?
Easy and obvious answer. The press release and leaks were timed to suck the air out of the room prior to Durham testifying.
They choreograph everything and its all focused on “Trump”

Barr moved everything under Weiss because the other US Atty was taking it seriously. He moved to Weiss, where he sat on it and ran out many of the Statutes.
Hunter was treated as if he disturbed the peace, or didn’t have his license to present at a traffic stop.
They have to give the allusion that "justice" is being served because they're throwing the book at Trump. The truth is, that plea deal is 2 1/2 years old. This is just smoke and mirrors. Guaranteed.

Wasn’t the lead prosecutor, David Weis, appointed by Trump?
And didn’t Trump’s DOJ end the investigation into Hillary a few days before he left office?
Never mind the timing of Humper’s plea, or it’s announcement. Fact is he’s pled to a couple of felonies. The lack of a jail term is a realization, right or wrong, that any jail term would have been pardoned by the Big Guy. As it is or seems to be, anyway, Humper is a felon for life. His protection lasts only as long as the Big Guy is in the white hut and that’s not going to last much longer. As a felon now, anything Comer’s bunch comes up with, fraud, conspiracy, etc. wise will be an add-on. Humper might very well get to be a three-strikes guy and so far all his shenanigans are federal.
Humper’s child support court case is exposing his financial geniousity and that hammer is coming down-—slower than we’d like , but it’s falling. His time hiding in the white hut is also getting short. He’ll soon be back rooming with Dad’s Vette. Remember to keep track of all these pieceofkrap lawyers who have helped the Bidumbunch avoid justice.
