Afghanistan was never going to be conquered. Alexander the Great showed that over 2000 years ago.
I came across it in my father in laws writing. He also loved Kipling. I suspect it came from reading English poetry.

A couple of maybe unrelated points. I’ve met some young Afghan women (back in the 60s when they were allowed much more freedom) and they can be quite attractive.
Second, many years ago, after the monster Mao died, China started to allow some variations of hair styles. There was a photo of women having their hair done with antique salon equipment hidden away for decades. Many had grown up under Mao’s repressive regime, but as soon as it was allowed feminine instinct kicked in and they wanted to look good.
We have no right to criticize them. Their country, their laws.

I always thought the trans thing was mostly a middle class and above white problem. But last week I saw from a distance a person sporting a big black beard wearing a pink “wife beater” shirt. I thought of the old adage that it takes a confident man to wear pink.
As I got closer, I saw that it was an actual “PINK” shirt with it written across the front. Over a large pair of boobs. The beard was sported by a dark-skinned person - looked Muslim - and almost like a fake beard it was so full, but I don’t think it was. They were pushing a cart with groceries in it.
I wonder if it is some weird way to be able to have freedom showing off her body because she was a “man”? (Several other women in the store were wearing Burkas.)
They look like Taliban to me.
