Read the account of the Hamas operation in today’s NYT.
The Old Grey Lady can still put ink on the page from time to time. At least three very important lessons in their coverage. Several retired senior officers jumped in their cars with handguns, drove into battle and organized small units from isolated soldiers and civilians.
The attack succeeded because it could not be imagined. Because it could not be imagined it could not be recognized. Because it was not recognized a proper defense was not deployed. Soldiers on duty at secure military outposts were shot dead in their beds.
