Wiseguy was an interesting mix (also very good show). Had many story arcs, but also sprinkled in episodic shows. These days it’s really hard to find true episodic shows. Even sitcoms are serialized. I think the network chiefs would do themselves a big favor if they each greenlit a pure episodic show.

“ the actor is also more faithful to the books‘

Roger that. Watching 5’6” Tom Cruz try to play 6’9” tough guy Jack Reacher was a joke.

I have not watched the Avengers in a long time, Diana Rigg was hot, but even the ones with Tara King were good.

I wonder if they will ever air Benny Hill again ?

It will always be true that new productions compete with years of older ones, and from the older ones the one percent representing more-or-less timeless pieces of entertainment will forever by watched.

Also there those older-generation people that relate better with the good old days.

That said, I think 99% of the new offerings stink.

If Holyweird now exists to launder money for Deep State, Deep State doesn’t give a damn about ratings, streaming numbers, or box office.

And, as long as long as they get their cut, neither will the people in the corporate boardrooms.

At the end of season 2 they really blew it—had a five minute lecture of leftist propaganda “explaining” what the show was about...

That is brutally bad art when you have to do that.
= = =

On the other hand, many old shows work up the drama and suspense and seem to back themselves onto a corner that they surely cannot solve in the last 3 minutes of a 30-minute show.

But they do, even in the last 1 minute.

I love it.

“I know a lot of very talented people that can’t get work because they’re not black, Native American, female or LGBTQ,” legendary Chinatown producer Howard Koch said.“

Ok so do what all of these no talent minority hires should done (but didn’t for some strange reason)when they felt all slighted and left out: start up your own gig. GET TOGETHER AND STRIKE OUT ON YOUR OWN.

Since these people are leftists they will never look at themselves and do any soul searching. They’ll just blame Trump or “bigots” or “sexists”. These studios will go bankrupt unless they change.

I’ve thought for a long time that Jack Vance’s “Sea World” would make a terrific movie, as would “The Face.”

Jack Vance wrote so many amazing books and short stories—any of them would be heads and shoulders above anything produced today.

I’ve been watching Perry Mason reruns. Love looking at the cars from the 50’s and 60’s.

The eerie feel of his writing style might not translate to the big screen in some cases, which is why I went with a couple of fairly straightforward adventures.

My wife and I watch the old Lucy shows and McHale’s Navy. Tim Conway was a young man.

They are really good. Many of PM shows were taken from the books, some closer, some broader, but, the concept is there.

I have read a number of the books and watch the show on ME-TV whenever I can. They are just GOOD.

And when shows like “Svengoolie” top the “Trends” on X, there is something going on.

It is amazing what talented screen-writers can do with complex science fiction.

One of my favorite short stories is “Story of Your Life” by Ted Chiang. It was totally mind-blowing and ridiculously complex.

I was convinced it would be impossible to make it into a movie.

I was shocked—but they did it—faithful to the original short story and a real treat:

“Arrival”, 2016—one of the best SF movies ever made imho.

That movie you referred to, “Zero Hour”, was used as the template for parody in “Airplane”, one of the greatest comedies of all time.

The “Airplane” producers even bought the rights to “Zero Hour” so they could lift entire segments of dialogue and plot points.

I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley...

Have seen a couple of shows that had real promise, but after a short-time, they brought homosexual relationships into the story line. It only took away from the story line and just pissed me off. I stopped watching. I will NOT watch that garbage.
