French President Jacques Chirac has told CNN: "When it comes to punishing this murderous folly, France will be at the side of the United States."
On Saturday, Spain's Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar reiterated Spain's support of the US.
Aznar expressed "solidarity with the United States" in a telephone conversation with the American President, hours after he visited the U.S. embassy and signed in the condolence book for the victims.

You ought to see what goes into a hotdog...
As for snails, never tried 'em. They are molluscs, like conchs, clams and oysters, which I do like.
Flame, flame, flame.

Alain Richard, the French defence minister, said the NATO move was a "political declaration" and refused to use the word war to describe the attacks on the U.S. Germany's Scharping also insisted: "We do not face a war."
Actually, it sounds like both France & Germany's support is typical socialist garbage.

Marquis de LAFAYETTE
(1757-1834) French citizen who joined Continental Army during Revolutionary War, ardent supporter of American Revolution, voted Major General by Continental Congress, commanded light division in Battle of Yorktown, close associate of George Washington.
Thank you France.

France may have a remaining heart after all... as for the progressist German "Das Perfekt Socialist Society", they can go to hell by breaking their NATO pledge.
But this is not about stopping this folly, this is about removing muslims from our midst who can be exploited to carry NBC attacks any time now. I hope France and Spain realize what the stake is and what it means.

Viva España! Yes, I was really pleased, too. I have received many messages of concern and support from friends in Spain, even those who are more left-leaning than they should be. Of course, we have to remember that Spain learned about Muslim invasions long ago, in 711, to be precise; it was not until 1492 that the Muslim invaders were entirely driven out of Spain. SPain now has a significant Islamic population, mostly from Morocco, and there has been considerable conflict over this in some parts of the country. Spain also is well aware of the horrors of terrorism, with ETA (Marxist Basque nationalists)having killed over 1,000 people over the last few years. And, yes, guess where many ETA members are thought to have gotten their training...

OK OK OK.........look, y'all. I've got a Black Belt in anti-French comments/jokes here at FR.
BUT...........
Not at this time. Far from it. They've stood up to be counted and seem to damned-well mean it. I say God Bless 'Em, and I thank them from the bottom of my American heart for being there when we need them. This isn't the time to dwell on past disagreements, overflight issues, etc., etc.
To Spain and France: Welcome aboard, brothers and sisters. Now............let's go kick some butt.
To: Moonlight Graham
France? FRANCE?!?! The cheese-eating surrender monkeys themselves? While Germany says no? I don't believe it. I hope it's true, but I don't believe it.

I bow to the French in this case. I wouldn't make a habit of that...at least not with my back to them.
To: Lady In Blue
I agree with you on the Spanish. Although many years ago now, I was stationed at Torrejon Air Base outside Madrid. Great people and the strategic importance of Spain's bases during a mission in the middle east would become sugnificant.

You are correct. I've been looking at a GMC Sierra anyway.
To: Procyon
OK, one more French joke:
I suppose we might be able to find some use for people who can say "I surrender" in German.
To: Wilum
Cripes, is there a full moon? France? Really? You're kidding right? This is bizarre as heck, Betcha Nostradamus is spinning in his grave smacking his head, and screaming, I didn't even predict this would happen!
I owe the country of France an Apology for doubting their ability to amaze me. I had to re-read that post a few times before I realized, it wasn't April 1st. All I can say is that France, if it employs it's foreign legion, will definitely impress the heck out of me. Their Foreign Legionnaires are pretty dang tough.
Vive' La France!
Never thought I'd make a post in favor of the French in my lifetime.
To: Moonlight Graham
Trust the French and Bin Laden will be sitting in the White House.

I'd forgotten about our bases in Spain! I think they'll be a key component to whatever military action we take.I vacationed in Spain in 1967.One of the best vacations I've ever had.The Spanards are warm and wonderful people. They also have great food!
