Could you explain the difference between "Distinct URLs" and "Distinct Hosts". I'm just not savvy enough to understand. Is the large number of Hosts mean that there are tens of thousand of individual lurkers out there in cyber-land?

This is the approximate number of readers of Free Republic for the day. (An over-simplification, the details are gory.)

Distinct URLs

This is the count of unique URL addresses (destinations, pages) served by Free Republic. Each URL address is counted only once.

When this number spikes, it's a fair indication that a web search engine (like google) has been indexing Free Republic.)
