You can't post them directly from your hard drive -- you have to provide a link to another website. Try the HTML tips using FreeRepublic's "Help" link on the main page to get some quick, easy lessons.

Which lighthouse do you live in? Please post a pic of it. Thanks in advance.

You can't post pictures from your C drive. That's right. I think it only works from the J, Q and T drives.

Good one. Ok, I just wanted to post a picture of my daughter who arrived home safely after I posted the Chico, Ca. blackout post last night. Ah, well, I guess I cannot. I am learning here though. Thank you.
To: Lighthouse Lady
Tape it to your screen, we'll see it.<:)
To: Lighthouse Lady
No, Lighthouse Lady, I'm not going to let you off lightly (hehe) until you post a picture of your daughter arriving home safely.
1. Register at a free web hosting site.
2. Upload your picture there
3. Post the HTML which will show it to us here
Now, get to it! You can do it.

You guys are really a hoot. Love getting on here and reading what you write...makes me laugh at the end of a stressful day at work...You know, watching for all of those ships at sea can be stressful!!:)

p.s. Don't forget to flag (or shine) me when you post it. Thanks.

If you want to post a gif or jpeg from your own computer, you must first post it on a web site that will allow linkage.
http://www.photopoint.com/index.html
They will let you have up to 10 photos at no charge. More costs a little bit.
However, for really great posting, without knowing anything about HTML, here is my guide.............
To post to Free Republic, you don't need to know HTML.
Just use an HTML editor such as FrontPage, HomePage, MS IE, Netscape Composer, etc.
Put in your text. Edit it. Use the "View Source" command and copy the stuff from <body> to </body>.
Then paste it into the Free Republic dialog box where it is supposed to go.
Easy.

To add a picture, just right click on it and select the "copy image" location.
Then, just paste the location into your document. Even animations are supported.
Links are a little more difficult. You should copy the link and put it into your composer. Then, you have to select the link tool to make it active. Just follow the instructions when you open up the link tool.

Or you can use any name or picture, use the link tool and produce a link
Free Republic
The Preview feature of Free Republic makes it easy to see if you are getting the result you want.
Not everyone can produce a good, educational, and informative post.
But, that is no excuse for a boring post.
P.S. I would recommend keeping replies brief.
