My guess is this is a "last chance for Arafat" statement. Hamas has got to be stupid to do this now while we look for our next target.

Powell is trying to give Arafat some diplomatic cover for going after Hamas and Islamic Jihad, etc. No doubt the weasel will make some "arrests" until this blows over and the quietly release the murdering scum.

OK, I'll take your word for it but would nonetheless appreciate a link to a videotape or a transcript of what you heard and what else he said before and after "this" particular sentence. What else did he say? Did he just blurt out that the attacks were, in essence, just an attack on arafat. I don't think so.

Colin Powell Claims the Jerusalem and Haifa Attacks were "against Arafat"

Then how come friggin' Arafat is not dead and 25 Israelis are? Is Powell the new Palle minister of information?

There is nothing about this administration that is "sloppy talk"..

There is nothing about this administration that is working off of focus groups.

I'd say, pay close attention. This is deadly serious.

Look at # 23. Powell didn't say that anyway. Disinformation time again.

Ha ha ha. Come on, almost everyone in the world except you is able to comprehend that post #23 is not the sum total of everything Colin has said on the subject. It appears to be disinformation time, but the disinformation's not emanating from Diogenesis.

What the HECK is he talking about????????

Monday, December 03, 2001 Kislev 18, 5762 Israel Time: 02:51 (GMT+2)
Ha'aretz

Against the backdrop of Arafat's meetings with Anthony Zinni over the weekend - the U.S. envoy has been demanding that the PA leader move against terror - the spate of terror attacks further testifies to Arafat's eroding power. The attacks, writes Rubinstein, "are like spitting in the face of Arafat. They are a direct act of provocation against the PA chairman."

Over the weekend, Arafat's forces tried to arrest Dr. Mohammed al-Hindi, one of the Islamic Jihad leaders in the Gaza Strip. But al-Hindi's bodyguards fired at the PA men, preventing his arrest. This is the second time that the PA has tried to arrest al-Hindi and faced fiery opposition.

"In Palestinian terms," says Rubinstein, "what is going on at present in the PA areas can be defined as the rebellion of the Islamic organizations against the regime of Yasser Arafat."

A poster on this thread mentioned good cop,bad cop>I believe thats the case here.Im not ready to give up Colin Powell yet.I think its wise to wait a little longer before we pass judgement. It also could be an attempt by the administration to create a perceived rift in Terrorist policy. It could, one would think, affect an adversary's strategic thinking.I think by Bush not saying anything its sending a message;Go and get them, while having secstate playing peacemaker.

Powell said no such thing. Dio is way-off base on this one. A real shame. We do not need to make Powell the enemy. He's NOT.

Please read # 23.

Does diogenesis[sic!] even speak english? All he seems to do is post pictures of nuclear detonations and other mass carnage. Let's have him reply. Can he write sentences with more than four or five words? I'd like to see it.

They may be sending Arafat a message that he has not control over them ... and he doesn't. The radicals are more radical than ever, especially since Sept. 11th.

Think what you mean to say is that the element that is MORE radical than Afafat is expressing dissatisfaction with him. He's definitely a radical and a purveyor of terrorism.

>>>Why try to cast Powell as the enemy? Your photos should have been posted without slandering Powell!

Nonsense.  Truth is a defense against slander or libel.  You are witnessing government by the spewed out.  The peace process is a lie to deceive even the very elected.

I have defended him previously (at times), but he's completely out to lunch on this. Like a man standing in front of a Mapelthorpe and swearing it reminds him of Michaelangelo.

Secretary Of State Colin Powell is either misinformed, naive, or a fool. The truth is Hamas and Islamic Jihad are proxies of the PLO. Yasser Arafat may not have ordered each and every act of terror against Israel but he is responsible for the terror apparatus that is waging war against Israel and he has not moved to dismantle. This war against the Jewish state would not be occurring if Arafat genuinely wanted peace. Arafat is Israel's Osama Bin Laden and he must be hunted down and killed and his kingdom of terror mist be totally destroyed. What is at issue now is not whether to act against Arafat but when the number of events in Israel reach a mass to the point that even the average Meretz voter in Israel has concluded Oslo was the stupidest idea in human history. My friend Steven Plaut says Jewish history will determined by Meretz and in view of the imbecilic stupidity of Israel's leaders we are still far from the point where Israel will finally do what needs to be done as the Israeli Left is still far from convinced its time to finally end Oslo. Only when that happens will Arafat be history.

Thanks for posting this...

...."Powell said Arafat in turn ``said rather specifically that he has expressed his condolences and he is going to work on it and he acknowledged that these were attacks against him as well as attacks against Israel.''

Gee... somebody needs to go back to school!
