LONDON (Reuters) - Osama bin Laden (news - web sites), the world's most wanted man, said on a video broadcast by al-Jazeera satellite television on Wednesday that the September 11 suicide attacks were intended to stop U.S. support for Israel.
``Our terrorism against the United States is worthy of praise to deter the oppressor so that America stop its support for Israel, which is killing our children,'' the bearded, Saudi-born fugitive said.
He added that the tape was being issued to mark about three months since the attacks on New York and Washington and two months after the United States began its bombing of Afghan targets.
The remarks indicated the tape was recorded in early to mid December.
Looking tired but calm, bin Laden was dressed in a clean, camouflage-patterned combat jacket. He sat against a cloth or canvas screen, his Russian-designed submachinegun propped beside him. There was no indication where he was when he recorded the video.
Hmmmm... does this mean it's OK for us to stay in Saudi Arabia and bomb Iraqis? What about all the other things he complained about?
His first video was "brilliant" in that it focused on "arab" issues, and ones that resonate with western lefites, like Iraq. His later videos are more expansive, including Timor. His home video shows wanting to convert the world to Islam, the "strong horse."
I think this is a "brilliant" strategy, the palestinianization of his cause. Will no doubt be used to "explain" what he is all about for the paranoid arabpropsters and lefties, ignoring all his other statements. Really, it's just selective propaganda and another showing that he has been "in tune" with the world media and aware of its workings since 911.

A marriage of convenience, like Saddam Hussein. There have been rumors that some of the Palestinian terror groups trained with al Qaeda, and some of the groups that gave money to OBL/al Qaeda were also connected to some of the Palestinian groups.

Mitigating damages--great lawyer line! Remember how Saddam attacked Israel with Scuds? Where else in the world would two sides be at war, and one side by bombing a third party could be seen as undermining the resolve and cohesion of the opponent?

Bin Laden is a liar who will say anything.
But then, no one said it had nothing to do with Israel. Only you and your bigoted straw man argument says that.
From experience with some of the posters on this thread, the accusations will start: Israeli Firster, Amen Corner, JDL operative, saving their most devastating mortar for last: the dreaded liberal label.
They're most predictable in their pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel, pro-bin Laden screeds.
You carry Bin Laden's water at FreeRepublic. He would disagree with none of your posts except the ones railing at the bloody Jihad in Chechnya.
Because he says different things at different times, how about his Nov. 3 video adding Timor, Chechnya, Kashmir, etc. etc. He's a pretty good propagandist in his selectivity and timing. Will see what happens. I think certainly his disgust for any American presence in Saudi Arabia is the primary motivator of his rage.
