Truly, I can think of no better people to help with such a list than the folks at Free Republic. Thank you in advance for your assistance. I will be looking up a few goods and posting them here myself as time and opportunity allow. It will most likely prove to be a challenge for us all.

Okay. Here's a terrific paper company if ever there's something you need in the way of a paper that's slightly different yet much better than the typical stuff. It's an old company based out of Niles, Michigan, not far from where I live.

Good luck with this thread! I would request that those who would think this is a bad idea (for whatever reason) please strive to keep their comments civil and to the point. I'm looking forward to seeing what is out there, what is still being made right here in the good old USA in factories that have things like safety standards, vacation pay and 40 hour work weeks, little goodies like that.

For fishing equipment: Penn Reels.

http://www.pennreels.com

No need to buy from them just because they're made in the US, buy them because they really do make great fishing equipment.

If you want to check out some really great furniture, try this. The Stickley Brothers, based out of Manilus, New York have been at it for over a century. We have a chair they built that used to be in my grandpas home. It has a nice look to it - not too fancy, not too plain. The new stuff probably costs a great deal, but if you can afford it, go for it. Definitely USA quality.

AMD CPU chips. Some of them, anyway. They have one plant in Texas, and one in Germany.

Red Wing Shoes. I'm hard on shoes, and they've taken everything I could dish out.

On this topic, anyone know of American made kitchen knives (middle to mid-high price range).
Some Chicago cutlery are, some aren't. I really like my Henckels (but they are made in China,
Spain, and Germany depending on which line you buy).

"They have one plant in Texas, and one in Germany."

Thanks for the word. There are times when Germany runs circles around us when it comes to mechanical precision. I reckon the same may be true when it comes to technology.

You are right about Red Wing shoes, they are the best shoes anyone can get, especially if you have to be on your feet all day.

There are times when Germany runs circles

Very few countries have the ability to make CPUs. Intel has plants in USA and Ireland, with a new one to open in Israel sometime in the near future. AMD has one each in USA and Germany, Motorola (heart of the Macintosh) may make all their CPUs in USA. SDRAM chips usually come from the Far East. Flash memory (The digital camera memory cards) comes from USA and the Far East.

Arizona Jeans. Bought Two pair last year. Have been happy with them. They are top quality. I will buy them again if they are still made in the USA. With clothing I look every time. I was surprised one time to find that Levi's were no longer made in the USA.
