I own a CD-burner...and almost 1,000 legally purchased CDs. I enjoy making compilations of my vast, legally obtained collection because, let's face it, almost every CD has its "throwaway" tracks that you don't want to hear over and over again.

Exactly. My family has a CD burner; when we find a CD that we all love, we copy it so that there's no quarreling over who gets it first. However, we do not use the Napster-oid software to trade MP3s with other people; there is a clear line between copying your own CDs and stealing music. A lot of people don't seem to understand that - or don't want to; but I've never had a problem with it.
