Jim Robinson & FR accused of censorship

FREE REPUBLIC ADMITS IT IS PRO-WAR AND CENSORS ALL POSTS NOT IN ACCORD WITH US GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA

NOW MAKING THE ROUNDS ON THE NET. Cited under "fair use" for educational purposes.

Date: Wed, 02 Jan 2002 02:50:39 -0800
From: "Jim Robinson"
Organization: Free Republic
To: "Larry McDonald"
Subject: Re: What Are You Scared Of?

Those who are coming in here to post a bunch of propaganda to smear Bush or otherwise harm the war effort are going to be deleted.

I guess you missed my posts where I said that I am 100% behind our President and the war. I don't care if it's Ron Paul, Larry McDonald, or the head of the John Birch Society himself. I do not want it on FR. And I do not want a bunch of 40 year old conspiracy crap. Not interested.
____________________________________________________________

There you have it. Free Republic is not an objective reporter of the facts but a blatent supporter of the Bush administrations' war for oil, and by Jim Robinson's own admission.

In another post, Jim states...

____________________________________________________________
Jim Robinson (Free Republic)
by JIM ROBINSON in This thread

Lots of grumbling lately about deleted posts. Well, my friends, the simple truth is the game has changed. We are now at war.
____________________________________________________________

Of course, Jim Robinson has it wrong. We're not at war. Only Congress can state otherwise and there has been no formal declaration of war by anyone. Bush hasn't gone to Congress to ask for such a declaration because that would restore Congress to its role in the balance of powers doctrine on which the nation was founded. Bush has no intention of allowing Congress to second-guess him, and indeed Bush has flat out declared that he will not bother informing Congress of intelligence operations from this point forward as is required by law.

Yes, we have been attacked, but it's not really known by whom. Even the FBI admits the IDs on which they based their accusations were faked using the stolen identities of middle eastern Arabs, some of whom have since turned up alive. From this it should be obvious that we cannot really know who was on those planes, only who we are supposed to blame.

But Jim Robinson isn't interested in these facts. He's spiked threads pointing out that the FBI admitted the IDs used by the hijackers were phony. Jim Robinson has spiked threads about how some of the accused hijackers have turned up alive. Jim Robinson has spiked many of the threads dealing with the Israeli spy scandal and the fact that the US has classified evidence linking some of the arrested Israeli spies with the events of 9/11. Jim Robinson has spiked threads suggestng that Bush has exceeed his constitutional authority. Jim Robinson will tolerate no doubts about the righteousness of Bush's war for oil.

But more than that, Jim Robinson displays an arrogant assumption that the presence of a war justifies anything. He argues that we should get behind the government because (he claims) there is a war. But translate that to Germany of 1939. Was it the right thing for the German people to unquestioningly back Hitler because there was a war on? Or would the German people (and the world) have been better served taking a pause and a closer look at just what the government was doing? And if Germany should have examined their government's claims a lot closer, then how can we not do the same now?

Free Republic has shown its true colors. Jim is "not interested" in facts, only in selling Bush's wars. Free Republic isn't about news any more, only about propaganda.

Uhh, just curious. If these weren't middle eastern Islamist terrorists, who do you think they are? Obviously, somebody flew planes into buildings. How exactly would you go about recruiting people for this task? Where do you think our mysterious attackers found them? What other group of people has repeatedly launched suicide attacks on American targets? What proof would you accept of their identity? There's not a lot of physical evidence left to identify.

I don't see why one can't be pro-war -- and welcome debate. Isn't that what the "Free" in Free Republic is supposed to mean?

And you're right -- only Congress can declare war.

Back when Slick Willie was Prez, most Freepers were Constitutional "strict constructionists." Now, they seem to believe the Constitution is a "living document."

Bush hasn't gone to Congress to ask for such a declaration because that would restore Congress to its role in the balance of powers doctrine on which the nation was founded.

How?

Once Congress has declared war, its Constitutional prerogative has pretty well been exercised and it has essentially no way to influence the decisions of the Commander in Chief except by threatening to withold supplies, which usually isn't very popular with the people during wartime.

Personally speaking, as a retired member of the Armed Forces of the United States (Navy), I applaud JimRobs efforts to not give 'Aid and Comfort" to the enemies of the U.S. (or even those who don't understand what aid-and-comfort means).

BTW, I've lost a few of my own "posts" recently because I didn't follow the rules... My fault...not his.

Only Congress can declare war but the President as CnC of the US armed forces can deploy them however he wants. He doesn't need a declaration of war for that.

So let's see, our founders would have set back and allowed a foreign enemy to attack the U.S. and done nothing until the Congress officially declared war?

Seems to me that I remember our founders engaging in a little spat due to our ships being attacked by a foreign power. HMMM I wonder why ole TJ and company did not wait for a declaration........

Come on, who are you trying to fool? "Blatant supporter." "War for oil" Your bias does not show through, huh? You hardly have a plateform from which to cry foul on objectivity.

Why are liberals always so confused, asigning their definitions of the world to everything and everyone else. Don't you get it, we don't think like you do.

FreeRepublic is a conservative forum - not a place for liberals to rant - or to tell us how bad George Bush is. You have forums for that, starting with most of the media.

Looks to me like the site it comes from it a mix of anti-semitic bs along with the view that whatever the US is doing is wrong, or some kind of super plot to enslave us, etc. etc. If that's where the extreme right wing is at these days, they're a clear and present danger to the Republic.

Neither have I. And there should be plenty of gripes against the government around here. Especially since its splendid prosecution of the war hasn't exactly turned the government into good little boys and girls otherwise. (In case no one has noticed, the era of big government...ain't over until it's over.) But when I say so, I tend to catch more flak from the pro-government (ssshhh! they don't like it when we call them statists!) posters (Republican and Democrat alike) than I ever have from J.R...

We here at FR know different, I would like to challenge anyone to try and post a discenting view point on DU and see how long it is before your account is wiped out. What bothers these groups who claim censorship, is the fact that JimRob has the most popular conservative website in the entire world and they can't deal with the facts. Jim and the Moderators do a great job dealing with the disruptors.

The other fact about this accusation is: If Jim Robinson wants to censor every single opinion posted on this website, he has the absolute right to do so. Jim is the owner and if you find that your opinion is not welcome here......TOUGH SH*T, go find some other website to post your opinion on.

Whatever. Trivial word games aside, are there any Vietnam vets who think that we weren't actually at war in Vietnam? And President Bush did receive congressional approval for military action, so let the author put that in his pipe and smoke it.

Gasp, what a terrible thing for Jim Robinson to say (NOT!!!). The author weakened his argument by posting Jim's words here.

But Jim Robinson isn't interested in these facts. He's spiked threads pointing out that the FBI admitted the IDs used by the hijackers were phony. Bush's war for oil? The author is really showing his "objectivity" here after moaning the Jim Robinson doesn't have any. News flash for the author of this tripe: It's Jim's website. He can keep or dump any thread that he wants and he doesn't have to explain it to your dumb ass. Don't like it? Then go away, stay at your website, and quit moaning about how other people run their websites. And comparing America to Nazi Germany ain't helping the argument, either.
