Thanks, Chris. Please see my thread from last week, titled "Oklahoma Republicans Squander Away Third Congressional Seat". FTR, the only Republicans who even did radio bytes for the guy were Steve Largent, whose resignation from the seat made this election happen, and our Senior Senator Don Nickles. All the rest of them were AWOL, and the results were, well, not as good as they could have been otherwise.

Listening to radio ads, TV and commentary, and reading the local papers, Dodd looked like a better candidate running a better campaign--I was very concerned that Dodd might pull this off and am thankful at the apparent result.

lots of GOP voters sat on their butts, making this race closer than it should have been.

I agree, even though there was a higher total turnout than expected. Which makes me wonder what got so many people interested in this race? Specifically, what convinced so many people to get out and vote for Dodd? Living in Tulsa, I saw and heard more about Sullivan than I did Dodd, yet Dodd did surprisingly well when votes were counted.

BTW, why is it that you could only find a picture of him with his DAUGHTER? Huh? Betcha never thought of that, DIDJA??!

<:^D

LOL

Actually, I didn't need to look for any pictures as I couldn't care less about Dodd beyond wanting to see him lose. I just remembered seeing the picture on his website when I looked it over before.

Look no further than Keating! If he hadn't had his wife run in the primary and made that stupid comment about dumb voters in the 1st district this race IMO would not have been this close. Keating needs to put a sock in it for the remainder of his term. Sullivan will do better in the general election IMO than he did in this special election.

Last year the RATs got 58,000 votes in this race, and this year they still were able to turn out 50,000 voters .
However, the GOP turn out was down by 55%, making this race close.

If the GOP voters sit on their butts in Nov, 2002..... Say hello to speaker GepRat

From 2000 Largent 138,528 70 % vs Lowe 58,493 30 %

You didn't direct your statements to me, but i'm going to challenge them anyways.

Before I say my peace, let me explain my own beliefs on the subject. I'm a 25 year old female and a conservative (dont ask how or why- I don't know). As a girl, I feel like most women do about gays: I don't hold very strong opinions on the subject. I tend to think that they are abnormal, but that they're entitled to equality. I don't believe in gay marriage or adoption, but other than that I would not have a problem being friends or acquaintances with them (it's none of my buisness).

However, I do understand that many people hold strong feelings about the topic (usually due to religion or upbringing). Even though I consider myself religious, it has still never concerned me very much. Alot of politically correct and liberal people attempt to make opposition to gays out to be the equivalent of racism and other types of 'discrimination'- but it isn't, period. I accept the fact that many folks just have deeply held religious views.

The ones that really bother me are people like you. You seem to insuate that you are more tolerant or open-minded because you refuse to pass judgement. The problem is that you don't allow anyone else to disagree with your views so much as a little, at least on this subject, without jumping down their throat. If you believe in being so all-fire broad minded, perhaps you ought to be tolerant enough to allow others the chance to object to your conclusions about life without ignorantly condemning them for their blind intolerance!

Just a thought,
Shannon

This was a special election and a very short campaign time for the Republican thanks to mrs. keating. They were expecting 60,000 and got 100,000! I would imagine that some of mrs. keating's supporters stayed home! J.C. gets 60% in my district everytime. I would expect Sullivan to get about the same in the general election!

Agree 100% with your Keating comments!

Are you making plan to cover the elections? Maybe we should brainstorm?

My original plans were to do the same as I had done before. I am not sure I am gonig to have the same time though. Coop has been also looking at this stuff (or had been through this past November). Maybe we can come up with some ideas between the three of us
