Pat Buchanan is a dedicated Conservative, and his words are steel! I admire him for having the grit to maintain his ideals, and I can only thank him for being a magnet for the stupid-people that wasted their time-and-money on trying to defeat him, thereby taking Ross Perot OUT of the last election!
Remember, a pint-sized megalomaniac with a Billion Dollars is a problem for any Democratic-Republic.

Conservatives have lost the moral certitude they had when they were young and theirs was a fighting faith. Now, they seem desperately anxious to reassure the public that they are really not bigots, but every bit as warmhearted and well intentioned as their accusers. After Mr. Bush chose his Cabinet, NAACP chair Julian Bond said he had "selected nominees from the Taliban wing of American politics, appeased the wretched appetite of the extreme right wing and chose(n) Cabinet officials whose devotion to the Confederacy is nearly canine in its uncritical affection.
House Majority Leader Richard Armey wrote NAACP president Kwasi Mfume that such language was "radical McCarthyism" and "reverse race-baiting" and "if left unchallenged, this practice will continue to divide our nation." Armey asked for a meeting, but Bond dismissed his letter as "a typical complaint of those who oppose justice and fairness."
The episode is instructive. One of the highest ranking Republicans in the nation had requested a meeting with the NAACP whose leaders had smeared his party and vilified the President-elect, and Bond had treated him with contempt. A morally self confident Republican party would have lacerated Bond and demanded that the IRS look into the NAACP to insure that it was not violating its tax exemption by engaging in partisan attacks, cut off discretionary federal funds to the NAACP until Bond was fired, written the major donor corporations of the NAACP to ask if they support demagogic attacks on the President-elect and amended tax laws to punish foundations like Ford……
Instead Mr., Armey asked for dialogue. Fighting back in the culture war has become incompatible with the new Republican image. Since Ronald Reagan departed, the media have whispered in Republican ears, "Moral and social issues are losers. Drop them or go down to defeat.." Republicans have gotten the message and become conscientious objectors in the culture war.
He has my admiration for his remarkable grasp of history, clearity of thought, his candor and wit. He traveled to our area on numerous occasions to speak out against the unfair trade laws and their damaging effects to our steel mills. He is a real gentleman.
Let's face it, if you're poor and without much means for support other than minimum wage employment, what politicians are you going to support?? The one who's talking about capital gains tax cuts or welfare handouts?
Besides, for me anyway it's about illegal immigration. They shouldn't be getting anything from the government but a one-way ticket back home. But while they can't seem to do much to make their own countries better, the illegals are smart enough to know cross the border, have a baby, and there you go - Uncle Sam is just a block away, fill out a few forms and the taxpayer accommodates.
They're going to try to shove a guest worker program down our throats whether we want it or not. Recession? Who said there's unemployment. If they do, they're going to have to do something with the Fourteenth Amendment and not grant automatic citizenship to children of illegals. Otherwise, they won't be "guests", but just another backdoor immigration program.
The interest groups and politicians pushing these suicidal policies are shameless and could care less about America or her children. Only about themselves and their bottom lines. We need more Pat Buchanans to expose these people and stop them in their tracks. The US has a right to its sovereignty like everyone else. We shouldn't be made to feel guilty about it.
I dont see how that responds to the issue? Are you in the country illegally? Are you grabbing all the free welfare and medical care you can get? Do you bring drugs across the border? Do you have any regard for the American laws?
If you are so charitable and concerned for these immigrants that your views are above the law, have you considered making a self-sacrifice for your cause? You could go to Mexico and solve their social problems there. You could take in some illegal aliens personally and arrange to give them a monthly check out of your own personal bank account instead of letting them burden the system. You should also put them on your insurance plan. Or can you only be an angel when your being charitable with other people's possessions?

You have not supplied the material from Buchanan's book that would make it THE issue. There is a difference between name calling and a logical argument supported by fact. You would need to back up your assertion that Buchanan is a racist with something other than ad hominem attacks to make Buchanan's book the issue. Otherwise you are just shooting the messenger and sidestepping the issues.
One the one hand, racists like Pat argue Hispanics don't "assimilate."

LOL! yah sure you will. So far you've avoided the issues inside the book on every thread including this one. Did you know that these issues have been around for some time before Buchanan wrote his book? Now if I was going to call Buchanan a racist I would certainly want to have read his book. I would then be able to use his book as a source to provide material proving that he is a racist. Something that you have been unable to do aside from attributing your strawman arguments. You make the claim you back it up.
And no this thread does not require that you have read Buchanan's book. When you bring up an issue people can respond or in your case run away.
Since my parents came over here on the Mayflower in 1637, (John & Dorothy of Ipswich, on "The Rose," April 8th, 1637) do I have the right to tell each and every person on this board, or Pat Buchanan, for that matter (whose family actually came here in the mid 1800s from Ireland and Scotland) to pack up and leave?
The fact of the matter is that every successive wave of immigrants has made me and my family, richer and more succesful, and has further entrenched us here in the USA.
If these immigrants didn't start coming since the 1600s, I have no doubt that this country would not be the international and domestic success story that it is today. No doubt whatsoever.

Yes I have, and it's delicious if made right. I've also worked with and known good Chinese people.
But the issue for me is mass legal immigration, now currently 1,000,000 a year, and ALL illegal immigration. We're a nation of laws, if you're here and shouldn't be, then it's bye, bye, or ought to be.
My take on what Pat is saying is that because of uncontrolled immigration, mostly from countries that have never experienced Western culture, the danger is the one we have now will be replaced with something totally foreign, in unchartered waters that could endanger the peace and security of the world.
You and others may scoff at this notion all you want, and I respect your opinion like everyones, but I think Pat is on to something. Just look at certain towns in southern Texas. Not only do they not speak English down there anymore, they've made Spanish the official language. Unthinkable 30 years ago.
Immigration is one thing, I'm not totally against it. But it needs to be done in moderation, so it's controlled and regulated properly. And most important, we're taking only enough that we can assimiliate at any given time, legally.

Some regions of Texas are far worse than California. We were in Texas several years ago and were stunned to find that much of the state appears to be over run with foreigners and non english speaking people. Houston in particular.
