The new Brooklyn borough president said "diversity" is making him take down a portrait of "old white man" George Washington that's hung in the office for years. Brooklyn Beep Marty Markowitz said he will probably hang a portrait of a black or a woman in his office in place of the country's first president, while moving the Father of Our Country elsewhere in Borough Hall.

Either he doesn't know or he doesn't care. Washington could have freed all the slaves in America, and this guy wouldn't care. He's looking at the racial composition of Brooklyn at the present day and trying to pander to it---he even says so more or less in the article. Maybe he thinks that's the only way he as an "old white guy" can stay on as Brooklyn borough president.

Very true. A part and parcel of Stalin's technique for making someone into a "non-person" was to first remove pictures (and all other images) of said individual from public view. Then work on removing written references. Finally, the masses were not even permitted to utter the person's name. I'm telling you, this "diversity" crap is taking us right down that road. I say to hell with "diversity" if it is implemented at the expense of truth.

A "borough" is an administrative division of New York City, often called "The Five Boroughs" because there are five of them: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Historically, for example, New York City originally meant simply Manhattan Island, and Brooklyn was a separate city up until 1898 (many Brooklynites identify much more strongly with their borough than New York City---or they used to in the days of the Dodgers). Borough Presidents head up boroughs, and like this guy Markowitz, often turn them into little fiefdoms of patronage and frequently corruption. It's another reflection of just how big New York is---though not as big as Texas, of course. ;-)

We at work were discussing the hideous decision to "diversify" the NYFD flag raising statue.
Here is the make up of the room:
One Korean man
One white woman
Two white men, me and a registered liberal who holds a local office
One black female

With zero debate we concurred that changing the statue to show diversity is the stupidest thing ever thought of.
Political correctness is destroying our country.
