NEW YORK-- In his State of the Union address on Tuesday, Americans want President Bush to spend more time talking about the economy and domestic issues than talking about the war on terrorism, according to a new TIME/CNN poll. Three-quarters (74%) of those surveyed said he should talk more about the economy and domestic issues, while only one in six (16%) want to hear more about the war.

A majority of Americans trust Bush, with 62% of those surveyed saying he is a leader they can trust, while just over a third (36%) say they have doubts and reservations.

Bush Report Card:

Overall : When asked to give Bush a letter grade for his term in office to date, 65% give him an "A" or a "B," and 22% give him a "C."

Bush receives high ratings on his handling of the war on terrorism: Ž The War: Half of those polled (50%) give Bush an "A" on his work on the war in Afghanistan.

Fighting terrorism : Almost half (49%) give Bush an "A" on fighting terrorism outside the U.S. Ž Homeland security: 64% give him an "A" or "B" on handling homeland security.

The real trouble spots are on several domestic issues:

Unemployment : One in ten (11%) give him an "A," 28% give him a "B," and 30% a "C."

Creating jobs : Just 10% give Bush an "A," 26% give him a "B," and 31% a "C."

Enron : Only 13% give Bush an "A," 23% give him a "B," and 22% a "C."

Poll results appear in the upcoming issue of TIME, on newsstands Monday, Jan. 28. The TIME/CNN survey was conducted by Harris Interactive by telephone among 1017 adults Jan. 23-24, 2002. The margin of error for the total sample is plus or minus 3.1%.

It's not even a poll of registered voters. They must be interviewing 80% rats.

It must be driving the media crazy that they can't bring Bush. Can't have those 80%+ approval ratings so lets make respondants divy up the high grade. I don't remember Time magazine doing this when Clinton had his "stellar" 60% approval ratings. I guarantee you'll see Democrats everywhere tomorrow saying Bush's support has falled to "just about where Clinton was at when he left office". LOL.

Hey, if they get results like this in their REGULAR polling areas (Berkeley, CA, Evanston, IL and Amherst, MA), imagine what the results would be like if they polled in the red states....

Actually, though they talk it down, the numbers are good. I don't know how the questiion was posed, but I bet that most would like to hear about BOTH the war and the economy. He'll talk about both, so this poll is junk.

Its a good thing that these so-called "poll respondants" are not running the coutnry. Otherwise we would be handing the keys to the country to UBL, Saddam Hussein, Arafat, and the Chinese. The demonrats are more concerened with their own political interests than they are with the fate of their own country and their constituents. In case these "poll respondants" do not know, we are at war and most people, including myself, want to know where we stand in this war on terrorism.

I hope President Bush informs the country in his address, just who and what stands in the way of lifting our country out of this deep recession. Doing so, might send the multitude of rats scurrying for cover.

Oh, so the majority of those polled DON'T want to hear about the area where the Republicans are doing well, but DO want to hear about the areas where things aren't going so well?

If I didn't know that Time was a trusted, objective source of news, I'd think they were guilty of passing off propaganda garbage as fact, and abusing their watchdog role to further a pro-Democrat agenda.

But that COULDN'T be ...

Funny, I don't remember this A,B,C... rating sysytem used by the mainstream media when scumbag Klintoon was in the 'Oval Orifice'. Then again, I don't usually pay attention to polling data from biased, partisan liberals like Time magazine.

President Bush is doing a great job in the war on terrorism and he ain't doing bad in other areas either.

Thanks for posting this thread.

Whenever we see incredible lies like this supposedly story by the Slimes weekly fish wrap we need to ask ourselves two questions.

When do the left wing maggot infested mediots like the Slimes make up bad polls and lie to America?

Why would the left wing maggot infested mediost like the Slimes come out with such a fabrication like this lie?

I don't remember anyone taking polls before telling the president what the topic of the State of the Union should be.

Did they do things like this for Reagan?

Who care what these newsweeklies have to say? Who reads them anymore, anyway? They're nothing but opinionated versions of old news which has been broken on the Web.

I don't believe we have a president that lives by the polls anyway. If he gives the type speeches he's given since Sept. 20, we have nothing to fear. The Dumbocrats, are flailing like croakers in the bottom of an aluminum boat.( For land lubers, that is a small trash fish that makes a croaking sound when caught and thrown down into the bottom of your boat to be used as cut-bait later.)
