Outrage from New Hampshire!
Our friends at sister site PoliticsNH.com brought this offensive political cartoon to our attention. It was drawn by Mike Mariand and printed in today's Concord Monitor.
We don't have a problem with those who criticize President George W. Bush. In fact, we've taken a few shots at the Commander-in-Chief ourselves, when we thought he deserved rebuke. But to use the horrific September 11th terrorist attack on the World Trade Center that killed almost 3,000 innocent civilians to make a political point about the president's budget is disgusting. If Mariand were drawing cartoons in 1941, would he have drawn President Franklin Roosevelt piloting one of the Japanese fighter planes that participated in the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor to convey his opinion on an issue of the day?
If you would like to tell the folks at the Concord Monitor what you think about their political cartoon, we urge you to e-mail Mark Travis, the editorial page editor at mtravis@cmonitor.com. (2/8)
Your editorial cartoon, depicting "terrorist" President George W. Bush crashing into the WTC twin towers, is beneath contempt. To capitalize on this major American catastrophe to make a partisan political point is not only obscene, but the point you are trying to make is both petty and wrong (as in insulting our intelligence).
You are simply reinforcing that the most descriptive adjective for liberalism is "DISGUSTING".
BJ, I thought Mike Pride's reply showed some class. I hope no one is E-harassing him.
TC
Not only did he not apologize to the victims and families of September 11, he did not apologize to the President of the United States for this scurrilous, hate-filled outrage- I don't think we should rest until he does so.
That would be Pravda.
The Concord Monitor is typical leftist fish wrap. Please try the Union Leader instead for a better idea of what New Hampshire really thinks.
Proof the editor is a moron.
We're just too unsophisticated and behind the curve. Artists are just so much smarter than the rest of us.
Yes, the country has had time to pass through all the stages of grief
What sheer arrogance! Who the hell is this guy to determine the intensity and time span of the "stages of grief?" Next time someone you love dies, call this guy and ask him, "Is it over yet?" You wouldn't want to make a spectacle out of yourself after all.
But my decision to run the cartoon assumed that for others, as for myself, enough time had passed for the wounds of Sept. 11 to heal and for the terrorist attacks to take their place in the long history of political satire.
Unbelievable! Could we see the "satirical" political cartoons this guy has run about the Kennedy assassination? Or is the liberal icon too sacred to be a subject of satire?
This guy is completely clueless, and I hope this condescending "apology" is the last thing he gets to publish in a "newspaper."
Precisely. And that is what we are exercising.
I'm harrassing him.
He should apologize to the victims of the WTC disaster, and to the President, immediately.
His pitful, self-serving column was Clintonian to the core, expressing sorrow that he got caught running it.
Keep hammering him, I say.
Well, I am an artist and I'm not there yet. What a stupid dodge. Artistic license to be cruel and tasteless. I don't think so. Being an artist doesn't mean you can do anything you want and be excused because you are "provacative." That assumes that the artist is always right by definition since it is a statement we all need to hear. Sometimes the self absorbed need an intervention to help them come to terms with their place in society. I think he just got his "intervention." LOL.
regards
I've saved it, and will use some of your well-turned phrases in some of my own correspondence.
Your cheap tactic of allowing the completely offensive "Bush into The WTC" 'cartoon' by Mike Marland and then 'apologizing for it was a classic of Left Wing extremist double think and hypocrisy. You were more than happy to smear President Bush with the obscenity you called a cartoon. Then, just like your role model Clinton, attempted to deceive the public by performing a public act of 'contrition'.
It won't wash.
You deliberately smeared Bush. You know that your self-serving 'apology' is meaningless. The damage has been done. Your credibility has been reduce to less than zero, notwithstanding your pathetic attempt to excuse your perfidy.
You represent the lowest excrement scum in the septic tank known as the Liberal school of 'thought'.
