"Al" is Arabic for "the" (the word "el" in Spanish derives from it). The usage usually denotes the place of origin of the family name (similar to the archaic use in English in the middle ages, viz. "Guy of Guisborne" of "Robin Hood" fame. Also recall the Spanish national hero "El Cid").

"Ben" or "bin" or "ibn" means "son of" and is identical to the Hebrew "ben" in that respect. (Hebrew and Arabic are very close cousins, being Semitic languages-e.g. Heb. "Shalom", Ar. "Salaam": "Peace").

Do you realize most of the 911 terrorists had fake names and were suppose to be in school under student VISAs and were here illegally, even though the US stamped them legal?

That isn't how I remember it. I do recall that some of the people they subsequently looked for turned out to not have been here in the U.S., because of similarities of names, etc., but we had the names and IDs of the people who snuffed it on 9/11 within days.

With sound reasoning skills like that, you could easily get a job as an aide to Dianne Freakandswine or Tom Dasshole.

I've noticed that "charm" and "paranoia" never seem to go together.

Again, all you're showing is that we have been lax, thinking it couldn't happen here (even though it had).

You need to be a bit more critical here and a bit less naive.

You could be less defensive, and a little more rational.

But YOU said "they were only here legally because..." Then made it sound like that means they were here ILLEGALLY.

Perhaps we should define our terms. "Illegal Alien" means "Undocumented". If they are here under false pretenses that is something else again, but something that is far different than Mexicans and other aliens coming into this country secretly.

This is not the preferred method (at least in the past) for the terrorists who have been living and working here for a long time. They are here, false pretenses or not, because we've welcomed them in, not because they slid under barbed wire somewhere.

I think things probably HAVE changed, but mainly that's from waking from our ill-advised sleep, and ceasing to believe that everyone out there in the cruel world loves us deep down no matter what they say.

Well, they don't. Many of them want us destroyed, or at least withdrawn so emphatically from the world stage that they can continue their true aims--establishment of totalitarian governments in their own countries of origin--without opposition.

Ironically enough, I spent Monday and Tuesday keeping a friend company while he went to the NYC TLC licensing bureau!! His daughter is starting college next year and he wants to make a few extra bucks!

It was like a terrorists bazaar, he and I were the only white faces in the crowd and that includes the staff!!

I'm thinking a stretch-limo with its beefed up suspension could carry alot of bang-bang!!
