March 2, 2002 -- Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle took the gloves off this week - and showed just how low the 2004 presidential debate might sink.
Daschle, who has an eye on the White House, suggested President Bush is thoughtlessly prosecuting America's war on terror.

1) Do you support Daschle's statements?
2) If so, what would you have done different in the war on terror? and
3) If not are you willing to denounce Senator Daschle?
Did you notice how many Democrats suddenly found their voice? Did you notice the press going after Bush and Fleischer about the Clinton comments? This is a concerted effort to bring Bush's popularity down for the fall elections.
The congresscritters, lead on leashes by Senator Tommy, concentrated with fervor on a particular issue. Campaign finance reform didn't make the list.
I would suggest to the Senator that he ought to stick to these non-issues and let the responsible and able people deal with the war.
My thoughts exactly. I was wondering whether this article would somehow relate to the FPS genre of computing gaming.
Ugh. That's not gonna win you any influence with any Dakotans...get us straight.
For the record, it's both.
(Given this powerful position by the quirky Senate rules,
rules granted by the Constitution to establish internal operations but which since have evolved , it appears, to protect each senator's private motives and incumbancy ambitions in their respective states ).
Only because of Jefford's defection is Daschle able to stymy the Adminstration's attempt to govern the entire nation, for the benefit of the whole of the US, and not each personal fiefdom state.
As Daschle's leadership role is defined and motivated more as a politician than as a statesman becomes further obvious to the general public, ie, that he is not guided by Bushes desire for unity and the good of the country, but more by partisan politics , he and the democrats motives become even more transparent even to the average layman.
Most of the electorate ,I believe, despite the latest in the series of the media and the democrats attempts to belittle this basic and simple goal, are aware of democrat Daschles' tactics and is reflected by Bushes' consistantly high approval ratings.
If this conjecture is correct, and opinion by the general voting public holds, watch for a republican sweep this coming November.....
Now, if the recovery can proceed with strength, and the regrouping terrorists are destroyed en masse (preferably with OBL verified dead), then Tom and the others can say whatever they want--but they'll lose even more ground this year.
Using Daschle logic we must assume that Roosevelt failed in WW II since he died before Hitler and Hirohito were found.
Daschle continues to be his own worse enemy and Hillary Clinton's favorite opposition for the 2004 nomination.
Particularly while troops were on the ground, in harm's way.
The old motto was: American politics ends at the water's edge - the idea being, you don't encourage the enemy by appearing to be divided.
Will Daschle and his fellow Dems (Sens. Robert Byrd and Joe Biden also skewered Bush) trash that principle?
Will the Senate leader rend national unity to gain partisan advantage - to gain personal advantage?
He may try - indeed, he may already be trying.
But we doubt that the American people will let him get away with it for long.
This is politics, pure and simple. little tommy daschle is trying to gains seats in the House and the Senate. PLUS, he wants to start Prez Election 2004 campaign early, I think. Tough toenails, tommy. Sit down and shut up. Bush is tryin' ta run a war. You'll LOSE this one, FRiend. Once again you attack Bush, and once again it will come back to YOU!

I think it's instructive to compare President Bush to Daschole: Dubya, like it or not, is doing what he thinks is right. He plays to win, but his whole being is not tied to personal wins or losses. He plans on winning in 2004, and will work hard every day to win. However, I believe him when he says that he'd be just as happy to return to his ranch, and live his life.
Daschole, OTOH, proves day in and day out, that his entire being, his persona, his self-worth, is defined by his accumulation of power, and through any legislative victories, no matter the cost to this country.
To you Democrats out there (not referring to you MeeknMing, of course!), you have to know in your hearts that what I say is completely true. If you disagree with me, please refute the following points:
Why is your party, Zell Miller excluded, so against tax cuts, when it has been proven that TAX REVENUES INCREASE WHEN MARGINAL RATES ARE REDUCED?
Why are you so against rebuilding our military, when history has shown we're more likely to be attacked when our military is weak? Why were you such lapdogs for Clinton's Americorps plan, or for mandatory volunteer service (I love that one!) as a requirement for graduation, but you bristle at the thought of a return to the military draft, for national security reasons?
Why do you wail over the treatment of Johnny bin Walker and the detainees in Guantanamo, and the limits on practicing their faith, but you run screaming from the room at the mention of Jesus Christ or the mention of prayer in our schools?
Why do you want to send all the Enron executives to jail without due process, but are willing to give Jesse Jackson a free pass on over 20 years of financial shenanigans?
Inquiring minds want to know....
However, look on the bright side. 2003 is going to be a fun year, politically. All these Democrat wannabes are going to be trying to raise funds for the '04 primaries, and they're going to have to distinguish themselves, somehow.
By trying to get an early jump, and sending out all of their trial balloons now, they (especially Daschole) are making it tougher on themselves for this year's mid-term elections. Little Tommy is making it even more difficult for his counterpart from SD to win re-election.
That, IMHO, is a wonderful thing.
For Pete's sake, Daschole runs the Senate (and the country, if you ask me). He can have the Senate debate the war any day of the week and twice on Sundays, if he wants. That's within his power. He doesn't need to go whining to the press about this.
The Greta Van Susteren and Art Torres double team show was particularly disgusting. Attention Fox News, you're going to turn off your base of supporters, if you keep that kneepad broad on your channel. I didn't watch her on CNN and I'm not going to put up with her cr*p on Fox. I can't be the only one, who thinks this way.
The very fact that they would USE the war to fault Bush shows you what these people are really about.
Let the Democrats take the blame for NOT fighting terrorism.
"I think there is expansion without at least a clear direction," the nation's top Democrat said.
This little weasely skunk needs to have his musk bag removed so he wouldn't be so odorous!
The Demorats are morally bankrupt with no political issue. Bunch of losers!!
You are 100 percent correct. The Dems need to answer for Daschle, and it's not going to be pretty.

C'mon Tommy! The FreeRepublic team is ready for you!
He also said that Osama bin Hitler would die in April of that year although we would not have affirmative evidence of this until some years later.
Yes, the Dems in their last attempt at war, could, with certainty, tell the congress just when victory would be ours. He also told them just how much it would cost and every member of the house and senate was given HIS/HER week in which to prosecute the war.
FDR said, "there is enough war planning for all of us!"
PAH - Duck Faschle!
Where was the grand butt-boy when Clinton was bombing the hell out of Kosovo and having our
military set up shop in every country that was deemed by Hillary to need a few social workers?
So far as legislating the Administration's agenda, we have to ask ourselves: Are we better off with Daschle's stymieing...or Lott's fumbling?
In a political sense, I believe the GOP just might have more to gain in the 2002 elections from Daschle's obstructionism than they would have had from Lott's incompetency.
Jeffords may have done us a favor...
I use the word obtain instead of win because ...well he is a democrate
His horrendous political philosophy aside, the man has no sense of timing or feel for what the American people want or are interested in. He's so out of touch he could be from a different galaxy.
I would rejoice at this situation and vote to keep it if it wasn't for the fact that we are at war, and we must tear down the socialism of the last 40 years.
If we get a majority in all branches of government we should be doing negitive legislation. That is, undoing the wrong doings of the last 40 years. We should concentrate on returning states their rights, and returning the government to The People.
While tiny Tommy is a pain in the butt, he serves one singular purpose. To stop the federal government from passing laws that will further take away my God given liberty. Legislative paralysis is good for the people. It gives us time to mount an attack to take back our rights, and freedoms.
So, let him bluster, the little bastard is useful for our cause.
Right on.
This country needs legislative reform in a big way.
It is a fundamental thing with the DIMocRATS! The reason is that the DIMocRATS are the. . .
They don't want the masses to know that. Their agenda is completely dedicated to keeping people ignorant (bad schools? That's great! The dumber the folks are, the more they can't figure us out!). Keep 'em dumbed-down and they will lap up our Propaganda/rhetoric without question and VOTE FOR US! !
BONUS TIME: The Liberal Elite Media will carry the message! Hallelujah ! ! Praise the Lord for that! (But NOT in school, of course!)
That thing about I feel you're pain! ! Where does that come from?? That is actually true - they DO! Ever notice that the DIMocRATS are always "eating their own" as I've seen the expression here on FR?? They are busy stabbing one another in the back. If you're a DIMocRAT, that's gonna happen to ya. So when they tell their constituents I feel your pain!, remember it's because they're stabbing the constituent in the back, and they've felt that pain before! LOL! :o)
Morals??? Laws??? Those are for the little people, truly mere inconveniences for the DIMocRATS. Don't like a law?? Ignore it, and Wail BIG TIME if things go against ya! [Ex: Prez election 2000].
Etc., etc., etc., etc. ad infinitum. . ./rant
bu-bye now! :o)
Last I heard he was lickin' his wounds inflicted by his Fellow DIMocRAT buddies (yeah, yeah I know. . .he's an "Independent"). I don't think things turned out for him quite like he thought or expected they would.
See post #47 for more rant on DIMocRATS! :o)

The EPA ought to open up an investigation on him. He is a major pollutant of air. He should be fined every time he opens his mouth.
