Im not happy about amnesty either, but it was an inevitability.Im not ready to condemn Bush for it either.
I have mixed feelings about the amnesty issue. I can't really believe all the tin foil hat brigade's notions that Mexicans are moving here as part of some concerted effort to slowly take over the whole country.
I think they just want to have the same kind of opportunity to get ahead, that we all do. It sure won't happen in Mexico, but I am NOT condoning illegal immigration either.
I am kind of pragmatic about it, similar to Darlin's point of view. Since they are ALREADY here, let's brand 'em and let 'em start paying taxes to the Man like we all have to do.
We also need to make sure that millions more don't get here in the future too.
I don't think there has ever been a time I felt more betrayed by those who are supposed to represent us. This isn't a government of the people, by the people and for the people (well, not the American people anyway). Anybody that thinks it is is kidding themselves.
I don't give a sh!t what he does with CFR.....I have the amnesty issue on my mind.
I was talking about CFR.
Thank you, sweet ratt.....so, will you put it in writing that we can rescind my #47, where I was way too quick to agree to whatever YOU said? ;)

Sweet....they don't care about your vote; they have made a conscious decision that they can make up for the loss of your vote by catering to the Hispanics....what is so hard to understand?
Of course, the Dems believe they have a lock on that market....in the past, it has proved to be true....after all, why should a Hispanic accept the words of a mealy-mouthed party when the dirty party has consistently promised them everything under the sun and then some? Would you pick a cheap imitation?

I think my everyday tin foil hat is pretty - but I was going to make a new fancy one for an Easter bonnet.
I don't like the Spanish language here in Texas. Every time I go to the mall Ihear more Spanish spoken than English. While at the health department yesterday with Gabe, Gabe and I, the nurse, the receptionist and a family from India were the only people speaking English. If a family from India can learn English and speak it, why can't the Mexicans? Oh, one little Mexican boy - very cute, about 8 - spoke perfect English to his baby brother, but his parents only spoke Spanish. Gabe and I thought his parents should be speaking English to him and encouraging him and the little one - but to them it is more important that the children speak Spanish because they do not intend to fully assimilate.
More and more eyes are being opened, but it is too late. We will not go back to a Constitutional Republic because there is not enough left who recognize the difference let alone enough to care.
Statistics are amazing in this regard.....I daresay all the men left from WWII know what the scoop is.....sadly, we're losing them at the rate of 30,000 a month.....how much longer before they are all just memories. What has gone on in regards to the war front since WW2 can't count...sad to say. Since WWII, we've been on this 'dumbing down of Amerika' progrom!
Alas, I want to quit talking about it and be happy.....lighten up....guess the size of Michael Jordan's tenny shoes or who is gonna win Survivor Island or whatever that program is.

Agreed,The mexican illegals for the most part are commiting crimes.I know,I know, some do,but not enough to focus all of our anti immigration efforts solely on them.Any arab male aged 13-75,however should be denied entry with extreme predjudice.I was in SEA-TAC last night taking a red-eye home to STL.Most of the foriegners I saw (SEA is a big Intnl airport and port of entry)were of Asian extraction. But there were a lot of Arabs there.I dont think we can ban everyone from coming here, but we sure as hell should stop the arabs coming in.
I think I forgot to tell you today.... my skin is soft and smooth. Not to change the subject or anything. *L*
"Every time I go to the mall Ihear more Spanish spoken than English"
That's how it's been here today!! I get so angry! These people don't play by the same rules as everybody else but they sure as h*** don't mind imposing themselves on others and demanding whatever the h*** they want. If they have not enough respect for the people of this country to even learn the d***** langueage then I have no time for them. If I wanted to live in Mexico I'd go there!!
because they do not intend to fully assimilate.
I was at SeaTac airport frequently the last year I lived in Washington, 1999, and the airport was always crawling with Arabs. Disproportionate amount of them at the airport all the time than what you see in other public places. I thought that was odd.
..."We also need to make sure that millions more don't get here in the future too. "...
Hmmmmm......seems like that is a sweet refrain from ca 1986, right? About every 15 years that tune becomes a little popular ditty, only to fade away into obscurity for a few more years...perhaps next time we hear that sweet refrain, it will only be 10 - 12 years.....given the size of the population now, there would probably be a real need to recognize and offer amnesty much quicker next time....especially with two Republican precedent setting administrations.

But....but....rat-ty!!! Please, please, oh please....with a scoop of sugar on it? Gawd, you don't want me to have a hissy fit, do you? In front of God and everybody? Oh, ratty, please, ratty, you sweet, handsome, attractive, suave, debonaire, smooth-tongued, generous, hunk....[did I get all that right?}

Ratty, the Mexicans are always crossing the border, going back and forth. They are not cutting ties with their real homeland. I lived in a neighborhood with many of them for 2 years, and they were perfectly open about it.
The Mexican men were extremely lecherous toward me, the teens were stealing from us, breaking into our house 4 times and getting caught, and always trying to befriend us and stab us in the back first chance they got.
My kids invited some over to play PlayStation - the next month the PlayStation was stolen. Gabe let one ride his new bike, the next day his bike was stolen. One of the boys was over for dinner, the next week my stereo was stolen. We were not at all prejudiced against them when we moved to Texas, but we are learning. They will never be friends - they just pretend to be. They will only be loyal to each other.
A number of the ones I saw last night werent passengers either. Some of them were SEA-TAC emplyees with SIDA badges. After 9/11 all of us employees underwent a newer and more strict background check. One only hopes that the obvious middle easterners I saw last night working underwent the same.
I don't have the time to look it up right now but if you go to the amnesty thread we've been posting on, somewhere in the 1800's or 1900's (I think it's 1900's) one of vllandigham's posts has actual numbers that will get in in...and it's a h*** of a lot more than we were told!! Maybe you could find that and post it. I will look, but I'm gonna have to go soon. I haven't even eaten yet.
They can't possibly have accurate figures....but recall back in 2000 after the Census forms were received, I believe they were talking about 8 million illegals. Well, I guarantee you that 5 million Tibetians didn't swim across the damned pond to get here!!!
You better eat, girl, afore you get sick.

Since WWII, we've been on this 'dumbing down of Amerika' progrom!
I am gonna pull a 'Nully' here and play contrarian.
Who is dumber, the baby boomers, or the 25 year old next door neighbor who can program your computer??
There has been only ONE aberrent generation in this century, and it is the Baby Boomers. The Leftist indoctrination did NOT begin until they had control of the educational system.
In politics, despite the fact that Collectivism existed before them, it was the Baby Boomers who were determined to use any means necessary to 'socialize' America, and who have worked tirelessly since they came of age to install it here.
And even so, despite their most vigilant efforts, Gen X-ers are STILL more Libertarian than even the WWII generation. Oh, and my WWII generation Grandparents seek ME out for advice, before they do my Baby Boomer parents.
I don't feel dumbed down...
Not to rub it in ... but we just had NY steaks for dinner (on sale this week - a 4 pack of big steaks for $8!!!) with rice and yellow bell peppers and mushrooms and cheesy bread.... and I still have half a bottle of wine left. yummmmmmm ... And it was less expensive than feeding the family a meal(?) from McDonalds. In Washington I never saw steaks go on sale like I see it here in Texas. That pkg of steaks would have been $24 there.
If they have not enough respect for the people of this country to even learn the d***** langueage then I have no time for them.
Try teaching your parents French sometime. Old dogs don't like to learn new tricks. And it takes a while longer for them.
Most Mexicans have family values that are right in line with Southern Conservatives. And an overwhelming number of them are practicing Catholics.
especially with two Republican precedent setting administrations.
I'd rather have Bush Legitimizing their presence here, than AlGore pandering to their presence here with more welfare like gov't dependance programs.
How would you handle it if you were Queen, Rowdee?? I know, I know, you would round 'em up and let your border collie drive 'em to the border. But let's assume that you couldn't easily round them all up, then what??
Ah, but sweet ratty.....you da greatest....I would NEVER have meant to imply that youse was dumbed down. :)

"I don't feel dumbed down..."
Ratty, that's because you're special! Seriously though, those of us who were self-motivated as children probably were less likely to be effected by poor education. I always had a need to know and I'm guessing that you'd find that the majority of people who hang out on Free Republic did. The ones who have really paid the price are those who require spoon feeding and a lot of creativity in order to maximize their learning experience and sadly, those things fall way short these days.
did I get all that right?
Yes, but before I will do it, you must say: "Mi llamo es La Bruja."
I agree with all you said. Most feel we owe them something, and will take it if we dont give it to them. My ex-wife was from Venezuela and worked at a turkey procesing plant while I was in the Air Force. (Carolina Turkeys, Mount Olive NC for the INS). 90% of the workers were "undocumented" mexicans. They made sexual advances and chased my wife around on the job with no repercussions. They should try to improve Mexico before they try and suck us dry.
We were not at all prejudiced against them when we moved to Texas, but we are learning.
My experiences working right beside of them in the fields for about 10 summers, is quite different.
I'm too young to be a true baby boomer and too old to be a genXer - my parents are Korean Conflict generation, not WW2. But it was their generation (and Baby Boomer) that let the standards drop and the libs take over. I think of them and my friends' parents and the teachers I had that were their age and big government liberalism was epidemic among them. My sisters, their husbands and I are far more conservative - and so are all of our kids. My parents had no backbones, but I'm not sure if "putting their foot down" with me would have accomplished anything. I did my own thang. They let the "culture" take over with raising the kids, and it's a difficult task to hold the culture at bay now. Their idea of teaching me about boys was to watch "Summer of '42" and read "The Last Convertible" when I was 15.
I just have to make sure my teen-age kids recognize the source of the influence, even if they can't say no to it all now. They'll grow up eventually, and make the right choices.
"Most Mexicans have family values that are right in line with Southern Conservatives"
Then explain the quarte of a million illegals in California prisons alone!
It used to be required for citizenship that immigrants learn the language. They don't even have to be fluent. But they should be able to conduct their business and do their d***** jobs in English. If they don't want to learn it they shouldn't come here. Let them stay in Mexico where they can be comfortable with their OWN national language!
And it isn't just the Mexicans either. It infuriates me to have to do business by telephone and you get somebody on the other end of the line after sitting on hold for 35 minutes and you can't understand a d***** word they say. By the time you hang up you don't even know if you actually accomplished what you need to!!!

They made sexual advances and chased my wife around on the job with no repercussions.
Umm, is she cute?? Just kidding. There is no excuse for that kind of behavior.
But if you watch Univision for a while, you will notice that sexuality is not as repressed in Latino culture as here. And HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That doesn't excuse chasing women though.
I suspect there are a lot of Mexicans down in Mt Olive. Most of them prolly pick cucumbers like crazy during the summer too.
Perhaps it's the differenece between city people and country people that makes our experiences unalike. I think that difference often outweighs other cultural conflicts. It's the the red/blue difference on the 2000 election maps. Not racial or ethnic, but city vs small town and country.
Just kidding around Cardinal. I like to squabble as good as the next person, and these people here are first-rate squabblers.
If I sound mean, it is just because I am too sarcastic. I mean no harm.
Well, I gotta go again. I need to get to the hotel and get a shower and something to eat and take something for a headache. I'm afraid this vote thing has really upset me and made my headache worse than it was. I will check in tomorrow night. Y'all have a good evening.
Hugs to all y'all! Goodnight.
Nighty night SL - take care.
Im reminded of Ratty in the Wind in the Willows.Kind of a compliment, actually,he was the smart,"do the right thing kind of guy.
I'm too young to be a true baby boomer and too old to be a genXer
Oh, you ARE a Baby Boomer Val, you can't weasel out that easily.
Oh wait, I forgot to shave five to seven years off of your age as required by etiquette.
Maybe you DO slide in just under the wire for Gen X status.
There is NO middle ground either. Is you, or is you ain't??

..."I'd rather have Bush Legitimizing their presence here, than AlGore pandering to their presence here with more welfare like gov't dependance programs"....now why was I thinking that would be a part of a response I'd get......
..."How would you handle it if you were Queen, Rowdee?? I know, I know, you would round 'em up and let your border collie drive 'em to the border. But let's assume that you couldn't easily round them all up, then what?? "....
Cute, but no cigar.....our fedgov would have us believe they can make equipment that can see back to the origins of time and we can send men and women into space to make major repairs to said equipment....and we just can't seem to get a handle on the border? Puleeze.....instead of troops in Haiti, Somolia, Germany, Timbuckto, South America, Central America, Europe, Asia, all the "istan" republics.....why not stick them along our norther and southern borders--with orders to shoot anything coming across! Or heaven forbid, lets use the know-how of the Army Corps of Engineers and make a friggin Great Wall of America! Let fedgov get the hell out of the way of the states.....when the people of the state say "no mas" to providing health care, child care, education care, after school care, food resources, shopping resources, utility resources, highways, and the like for illegals, quit trying to defeat it. Quit the BS of offering in state tuition for illegals.
Hell yes....family values are important....let them all go back to their own friggin countries and be with their families....they're the ones breaking the families up, not us American citizens!
Shut the spigot of foreign aid off NOW.
As the states round up illegals, make buses available to haul their asses to the border and drop them offm, or to an airplane with an air marshall making sure they get on the flight for whatever country they came from.
Tell Koffee AnIdiot to take the UN and get the hell out of America--they've given us the last orders/directives/whatever
Tell Presidente Fox he can take his orders and shove them up his backside--and if he wants an Alamo II just bring it on babeee! The time of coddling all these a******s demanding we be the bread basket and support everybody in the world needs to come to an end now. The fat cats of the world can afford their private villas with their private guards, and their financial services that cover all their assets, yada yada yada....where they don't have their standard of living brought down to a third -world country level. As someone said on another thread.....let a bunch of Mexicans set up camp on his piece of paradise in Texas. Let them bring diseases and the like.
And ratty, on one of the threads you were chiding 'tin foilers' about your not having seen or read anything about the Mexicans wanting to take over some states.....try looking some of the stuff up,....try following some of the rallies and the like in Los Angeles...talk to people that live there....talk to FReepers like Mercuria who live in that hellhole of southern California and hear them battle this crap daily....go on some of the sites on the internet....
We obviously can't see what we're not willing to look at.
Excuse all the mess and incoherence.....I am all but frothing at the mouth of a bunch of traitors running this country....and no one wants to hold them accountable for a darn thing. I'll try to shut up for the rest of the evening...and just be happy.

Sexuality not being repressed was one of the selling points of my ex-wife, and yes she could have filled in on Univision anytime!
The point was, these guys were out of control. Sure they performed the nasty job of processing turkeys for next to nothing. They lived in company trailers and rode the company bus to work everyday and sent every cent back to mexico. They were (are) abused by this company, but that does not make them "honorary" American Citizens.

If you read this thread, you'll see it is serious. We are not playing. Today. Yet. We are working out our positions on many different imprtant current issues - not discussing Heather Locklear, or baiting men vs women, or exchanging moose cheese recipes.
She's the younest of the boomers.
But she won't like that.
And for that matter...technically, so are you.
Got that new recipe for me?
BTW, ratty....Border Collies don't 'drive'......they round up and herd animals to you, the shepherd. :)
My little Welsh Corgi is a 'driver'.

If they don't want to learn it they shouldn't come here.
Come on now, you are acting like they are ALL identical.
I am SURE there are PLENTY of Hispanic gang bangers out there in Ca., but that is more related to the environment out there. Around here, once in a while they will get too drunk, and commence to shooting one another, but they usually only shoot other Mexicans, and of course, usually a woman is involved.
Have you EVER tried to talk to one of them in their language??
How do you think they would react if you did?? Considering that they are in a foreign country and don't understand what ALL of us are saying...
Man! That rang a bell - the fuc*ing customer no service with a non-intelligible who knows what status pud.
Dammit, If you want to be in this greatest of all countries, learn our language - English, learn our almost forgotten values - depend upon yourselves, not the governmnet, and use lot's of rubbers - yes, each and every time - a new rubber. Comprende?

Hmmm, I will have to read that then.
The Literary character that I usually try to emulate is Walter Mitty.
