This truly is a good example - of someone trying to DISprove the bible instead of either trying to prove it or simply looking for the truth within it. Matt 27:65 "Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way and make it as secure as ye can."
They asked for a watch and Pilate told them they had one. This is easily translated that he gave them one and told them with a wave of the hand to get out of his face and use it as they had requested.
Later in Matthew (28:14) the elders promise those on the watch that they will persuade the governor (Pilate) and "secure you". Now why would the tomb guards be afraid of Pilate if they actually belonged to the Jewish religious authorities who were promising to protect them?

Can either side offer any proof, other than 2000yr old testimony?

Martyrdom for a belief is not unique. But what kind of person would die for a known lie? Someone insane?Well...Many Freepers would say that those who kill themselves (And others) in the name of Islam...

What would persuade you - if it existed?

Probably nothing less than it happening in an age where events such as this can be recorded and viewed by a majority.

Do pigs fly? Sure they do. Give me a trebuchet and I can make most anything fly.
Now, as far as "Did The Resurrection Really Happen?"
Without a doubt.
HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED!"
To: truthandlife
Yes. And its first witness was a woman.

Roll the stone away from resisting hearts -- the secret place and tomb of the Saviour. He is risen.
1Jo 4:4 "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."
Hope everyone has a 'revealing' Easter!

It's gonna happen again--but not by God or His son, so be careful about what you believe when you see it on TV.

You really think they would have left a back entrance unguarded? What a stupid grasping at staws to try to discredit an account. Can't you come up with anything better than that?

Careful. A guy that got his jollies killing christians became the author of most of the new testament. He apparrently got persuaded, even with a totally educated and closed mind. And he wrote a wonderful novel.

Well...Many Freepers would say that those who kill themselves (And others) in the name of Islam... And those people sincerely believe they will get 72 virgins for their efforts.
If the apostles moved the body, they would know their story to be a lie.

It was'nt a cave. It was a "rock hewn tomb" (Luke 23:53)

This is a great example, of someone that hadn't studied his Bible; Rome refused to place the guards, but instead told the Jews to use their own solders! IMO, this isn't quite right:)
The only place I find the "guard" talked about is in Matt. 27:62-66. I read it as Pilate did give the Jewish people a detail of guards and told them to make it as secure as possible.
But even if (which I don't think) it was the Jews guarding it, they would be as diligent at keeping it safe as the Romans, they didn't want a resurection to take place anymore then Rome did.

I don't understand why people who believe this stuff try to defend it with reason. I mean if Jesus did rise from the dead and is God himself, he can OBVIOUSLY do
anything.
No need to try to "Prove" anything. Just state it was magic (Real) and move on...
And on the same point...Even if it was ever "Proven" (Which it won't be either way), then believers would no longer need "Faith".
To: Johnny Shear
Cute. How many authors have died for their "novel"? Especially when all they had to do was say "Hey guys, it was just a big joke! Hail Ceaser my God!"
Your plithey response just does'nt hold water.

Let's assume for a moment Jesus was nothing special... There is still a big difference between murdering people / commiting suicide and allowing yourself to be killed as a sacrifice whether you were misguided or not... sorry.. your pathetic attempt falls flat!

True! but at the same time why do non-believers try to discredit it with such pathetic arguements?
