Doughnut Chase
Police followed a trail of doughnuts as they chased down two thieves in Louisiana. A woman is under arrest and her companion is on the run after allegedly stealing a doughnut truck in Slidell. Police say the driver of the Krispy Kreme truck told them he left the back doors open and the motor running while delivering doughnuts to a gas station. Next thing he knew, two people jumped in and drove off, spilling boxes of doughnuts out the back. Police chased it nearly 15 miles down the interstate before the driver pulled over and ran away into the woods. His companion was arrested. Police say she told them the two had been smoking crack cocaine. Police quote the Krispy Kreme driver as saying drivers will probably be ordered not to leave the doors open and the motor running while making deliveries.

Somehow leaving a trail of donuts in front of the police doesn't seem a good way to hide.
(I really didn't want to say that, but I've got a room full of people laughing and daring me. One of 'em knows Slidell...she's the worst of this bunch.)

I was going to make some jokes with this one but instead I think I will limit my comments to the fact that these crooks are incredibly stooooopid.
The jokes are just too easy.

I am just wondering what the heck they were going to DO with a stolen Krispy Kreme truck?? Cruise around town in it?

Somehow leaving a trail of donuts in front of the police doesn't seem a good way to hide.Right but, could there be any better way of slowing them down?! ;-)
To: chance33_98
I'm sure they impounded the truck (and its cargo) as "evidence".

Sorry, but after having watched the film, "Primary Colors," I still equate Krispy Kremes with Klintoon food. I just can't patronize the place.

Somehow leaving a trail of donuts in front of the police doesn't seem a good way to hide.Actually - it would be like throwing steak to distract an angry doberman hot on your trail. Wouldn't it? ;-)

As much as I hate to consume anything that Klinton would like - Krispy Kremes are the most amazing donuts on God's green earth. Actually - now that I think about it I would have to state that Klinton has inched up a notch on the respect-o-meter for that - such is my love of Krispy Kremes... now where's that article on new Government standards for measuring obesity?

They were probably on a low-carb diet and whilst walking by the truck had a sugar craving. Can you blame them. I wonder if one can enter a plea of "guilty, but hungry"
:-)

D.A.R.E. to keep cops off doughnuts!
To: stanz
Well, you have to admit, it was a pretty sweet collar for the cops. Give's the perps a well-rounded record, though. :)
To: chance33_98
Surprised this hasn't happened more often.
To: chance33_98
Sounds their alibi was full of holes...

Krispy Kreme thieves? I can't imagine anyone taking the chance of going to jail for Krispy Kreme doughnuts... Now
Lamar's Doughnuts, well, that's another story!
Mark
P.S. Ray Lamar makes the world's best doughnuts, but his french cruellers are even better! They just did a segment on Lamars on "The Best Of" on FoodTV.

The perps are not the only well-rounded ones. Some of the N Y Port Authority cops couldn't outrun a tree sloth.

Where are Lamar's Doughnuts located? Ray started his shop about 40 years ago in KC, in an old gas station, and has expanded to a number of locations in KC, as well as other states. I'm not sure exactly where, but I'm sure that all the info can be found at the Lamar's Web Site.
I do know that I was suprised to find one in Las Vegas last year!

shucks, why can't I ever get in a chase like that? For the same reason that you can not get overtime providing security for a drop dead gorgeous starlet who has a decided case of the hots for LEO's. It is a corralary to Murphy's laws.

The stole the truck at a Chevron on the East side of Gause Blvd and drove it up I-10 onto I-12 and finally exited in Lacombe. They then drove down Hwy 434 and stopped on Berry Todd Rd.
Despite Lacombe being a really small town it's where I work at for BellSouth. I missed the action because it happened before work but I spent nearly all day near the spot where they were stopped.
Lacombe isn't a bad city. Cetain parts are run down though. That section of Lacombe is rather ethnic and full of less than desirable people. It kinda smells funny too. Not as bad as Bogalusa though.

Stolen Truck Leaves Long Doughnut Trail
Fri Mar 29, 7:10 AM ET
SLIDELL, La. (Reuters) - Two people left a 15-mile-long trail of doughnuts after they took a Krispy Kreme truck from a parking lot and fled, police said on Thursday.
The truck was parked at a convenience store with its rear doors open and engine running while a deliveryman carried doughnuts inside, said Slidell police spokesman Rob Callahan. Two suspects hopped in the truck and sped off to the nearby town of Lacombe, with doughnuts spilling out along the way, he said.
They abandoned the truck when they were spotted by police responding to reports of a dangerous driver who was losing his doughnuts. Passenger Rose Houk, 31, was captured, but the driver, whose name was not released, ran away.
Houk told police they had been smoking crack cocaine for several hours before the incident, which occurred Wednesday, said Callahan.
Their motive for taking the Krispy Kreme truck was unclear.
"I don't know if it was a need for transportation of if they just had the munchies," he said.

LOL, alas, Murphy and I are well acquainted.
And, I just returned from celebrating Easter with relatives in North Carolina where I had my first Krispy Kreme doughnut. I rated them a 9 (of 10) on my scale.

The DA, after conferring with the LEO's, has decided to prosecute the vehicle theft with special circumstances due to the fact that many of the doughnuts that fell out of the back of the truck were unsalvageable.
Under the new charge the defendant can receive up to two years for stealing the vehicle with an additional 5 years for destroying the doughnuts.
