The West Bank: How Long Can This Continue?

Nobody expected Ariel Sharon to embrace the Arab League's latest peace offer, and not only because of the latest round of suicide bombings in Israel. Continues here.

====================================================================

Moral Equivalence?

Fed up with Arafat's double-dealing and duplicity, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon went on the offense yesterday, seizing the West Bank town of Ramallah and laying seige to Arafat's terrorist headquarters there.

For Sharon, the straw that broke the Camel's back came on Wednesday, with the deadly suicide bombing attack at the Park hotel in Israel's resort town of Netanya.

As many as 250 Israelis had gathered in the hotel's banquet hall for the Passover Seder, which heralds the traditional 8-day observance commemorating Israel's exodus from biblical Egypt. "Suddenly, it was hell", is how Nechama Donenhirsch, one of the diners, describes it. The bomber rushed into the hall and blew herself up, killing 22 and wounding more than 130 innocent civilians.

The bloodcurdling carnage was the dastardly handiwork of Hamas, a pathological Islamic death cult whose scorching hatred for Jews rivals that of German Nazis under Hitler's Third Reich.

The Klu Klux Klan, the Skin Heads, the Aryan Nation and their ilk have nothing on Hamas nor any of the plethora of fascist Islamic hate cults flurishing under Arafat's corrupt, tyrannical misrule. The so-called "territories" have literally become the ugly spawning ground of demented Hitler-fans, a veritable psycho-ward where 'Mein Kemp' is a runaway best-seller.

Not content with Wednesday's massacre of Jews, Islamic fascists on Friday were at it again, this time targeting a supermarket in a Jewish working class neighborhood in southeastern Jerusalem. Thankfully, the suicide bomber was stopped by a security guard at the entrance to the Kiryat Yovel strip mall, preventing an even greater carnage.

The 18-year-old Islamic storm trooper blew herself up, killing the guard, one other civilian and wounding at least 19 others.

Tellingly, the attacker was a member of the ruthless Al Aqsa Brigades, a band of barbaric savages linked to Arafat's Fatah gangsters.

Meanwhile, Israel's Ramallah actions sparked a cacophony of caterwauling from the usual gaggle of Neville-Chamberlain-wannabees.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan called on both sides "to exercise responsible leadership".

Javier Solana, head-huncho for European Union foreign and security policy, huffed and puffed that military force was no solution. His carping was echoed by French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine.

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said that "never has there been a greater need for restraint to be shown on both sides."

You see, in Straw's twisted world, neither side is right, neither side is wrong. To him and his morally diseased ilk, it's all the same. The technical term is 'moral equivalence'. As Straw sees it, bloody Islamic terrorism, which targets innocent civilians, and Jewish self-preservation are morally the same -- equivalent.

Sick, eh? You bet.

Memo to Sec. Straw: Take your moral blinders off, you buffoon.

My two cents...

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan called on both sides "to exercise responsible leadership".

That would assume both sides to have responsible leaders.
Yassar Arafat: "It's not my fault! I just can't control those waskly tewwowists."

Lrt's see. Ramadan was the time that we should give in to the muslims and stop military actions, or so said the EU. Where is their condemnation of the muslims for their attacks that coincided with passover. It sure seems that racism against the jews is alive and well in europe. Their hypocrisy makes me sick. a pox on their collective houses.

Have you noticed that these "Peace Activists" act as human shields to protect the innocent Palestinians. But, you never hear of them acting as human shields to protect Israelis at say a Passover Seder or a Bat Mitzvah or a supermarket?

There is an unpleasant and simple reality here: no peace can exist in this region until either the Israelis or the Pales win. One or the other.

Forget U.S. aid or even our "position" on this. The problem is the Jews in that Israel is tremendously liberal. Until the Israelis finally decide that their national survival is at stake, and there can be no compromise, they will continue to suffer. I have a friend who heads a conservative think tank in Jerusalem, and it is remarkable how liberal and socialistic this country is. THAT is the root of the problem---it is a nation populated by former American "reform" Jews.

"it is a nation populated by former American "reform" Jews."

Actually it is more like a nation populated by Russian and Eastern-European refugees, most of whom grew up in Socialist nations (or Communist ones) and have no idea of what political freedom and economic liberty are.

I am a Jew and a supporter of Israel, but I wonder if pouring U.S. dollars into Israel is the right way to teach them about these concepts. On the other hand, all the $$$ flows mainly because they have to defend themselves and have not the means. A vicious circle.

The "Israeli" accent is not an American one; it is a strong eastern-european accent, with a dash of Russian accent for flavoring.

John...Thanks for the moral equivalence writeup. But I think you may be missing the central villain in all this, ...the post-modernist US hating editors at "All the news fit to pervert" NYTimes.

If Iran/Iraq/NKorea constitute the "axis of evil", it is NYTimes that is day and night, supplying the intellectual support system for this axis of evil.

That's because they know that the Israelis would most likely refrain from violence in this situation, whereas the palestinians don't care who they murder with their human bombs (as was the case in the bus suicide-bombing last week--when 3 or 4 Arabs were killed along with some Israeli soldiers)

John, I now search for your posts each day. They are well thought-out and are always right on target.

If you were on tv opposite Bill O'Reilly I would choose to watch your program because it would be more "pithy". (O'reilly trademark quote)

it appears everyone caught this statement!

I don't think it will be possible to get a responsible leader with the PLO when their main objective the the total annilation of the Jews. We may as well have hitler to deal with and the only thing that forced him out and to put a bullet in his head was to completly destroy his forces. This is what i feel needs to be done with arafat and his reign of terror!
But! the world won't allow that....

"There is an unpleasant and simple reality here: no peace can exist in this region until either the Israelis or the Pales win."

Correct, but only partially. The threat to Israeli security only manifests itself in the form of Palestinian suicide bombers. The real threat is in the oligarchies and dictatorships of Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, and on, and on, and on.

Until Israel and most importantly a majority of Americans realize and accept this, neither will Israel nor the United States and for that matter the rest of the western world have secure peace free from the insidious ideology of Fundamental Islam.

The only way the powers that control those Arab/Muslim nations can keep that control is to feed their poor citizens with continued bombardment their plight is due to Western cultures and religions not Islamic.

Unfortunately, I am not sure we (Americans in the main, but all of western civilization) will accept the fact and act accordingly until an event that makes 911 look like a Sunday School picnic occurs.

Our war is with Fundamental Islam and every nation state that subscribes to it in any fashion. And to achieve a real victory it is going to take a resolve equal or greater to that we enjoyed while executing both of the previous World Wars.

We don't currently have that resolve and I am not at all convinced we will ever have it. The only way for this madness to end is to end it at it's root.

This is not a WAR about Religion. It is a WAR about survival, pure and simple, in my humble estimation.

The problem is the Jews in that Israel is tremendously liberal.

That is part of the problem . The other is that Israel is NOT a self sufficient nation capable of taking part in world commerce and at the same time providing for its own defense.

They are completely dependent on USA military and financial support
That also makes their influence on American lawmakers vital to their survival. And they have used it in the past. That is one reason why Buchanan seems so anti-Israel. I am sure he is very resentful of the Jewish pressure that was put on the Nixon administration to support Israel while at the same time the majority of American Jewish groups were fighting every attempt by the administrations to strengthen our military and fight communism.

Sorry if this offends some but it is the truth

Let's see. "Jews" in the US opposed Nixon on policy issues - just "Jews" I take it, no one else pressured the Nixon administration on these issues - and that justifies Pat Buchanan in wanting to leave "Jews" in Israel to die at the hands of our own nation's enemies. Because, of course, all "Jews" are guilty whenever any "Jew" anywhere does anything Pat Buchanan disapproves of.

I suppose that it was also justifiable for Pontius Pilate to kill the "Jew" Jesus because he resented the way "Jews" had resisted the Roman imperial administration, eh?
