Yeh, now all of sudden they find the Rolodex with the number for 911. They never called the law about the Pedo Priests though.
Priests, through the confessional have access to innermost thoughts of parishioners. They can identify vulnerable individuals, and there is the opportunity for exploitation.
How can she claim abuse if Mahony didn't touch her?

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - The woman who accused the leader of the nation's largest Roman Catholic archdiocese of sexually abusing her at a high school in 1970 said her psychiatrist diagnosed her as a paranoid schizophrenic.
The 51-year-old woman said she decided to come forward with her accusation against Los Angeles Archdiocese Cardinal Roger Mahony after seeing other victims speak out on the widening priest sex abuse scandal.
"If these people have the courage to do it, then I'm going to try to do it," she told The Associated Press Friday, speaking in her downtown apartment.
A former fast-food worker, she said she survives on disability and Social Security payments, and had to file for bankruptcy two years ago after a restaurant cut back her hours.
While Mahony identified the woman in a three-page statement denying her accusations, the AP does not identify victims in sexual assault cases, and the woman said she does not want her name used.
"My life has been hard because of the incidents. I live by myself, I have no one to talk to," she said.
On the wall of her apartment, in a complex between Highway 41 and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad, is a framed Carl's Jr. worker appreciation certificate. She said she also worked at Wendy's and Burger King.
Placed on disability since injuring her knees in an accidental fall in January, she said she has been taking drugs for pain, depression and high blood pressure.
She also said "the psychiatrist said I was a paranoid schizophrenic."
She said she had wanted to file a lawsuit against Mahony for years, long before she went through bankruptcy or saw reports about the Catholic church's recent pledge to work closely with police in sex abuse cases.
"I was going to sue them a long time ago, but I had to file a police report," she said.
The woman repeatedly said she couldn't recall details about what happened to her. But she insisted, "I'm not making this up. I know this is a serious allegation. This has been eating at me. I did call police when I was out of high school. They didn't believe me."
We have had quite a bit of this on Free Republic recently.
Who, exactly, are you talking about?
The conservatives want the heretics and homosexuals rooted out of the clergy, the convents, and everywhere else. We've wanted it for a long time. The Wanderer, a conservative Catholic paper, has been talking about this for years. Nobody was listening to us.
The liberals are trying desperately to crucify the abusers (because they hate the Church and everything it stands for) while hush-hushing the dirty little secret that most of them are homosexuals with a thing for teenage boys, because that goes against the Party Line that homosexuality is just one of many possible "lifestyle choices," all of which must be "affirmed". Oh,and did we mention that homosexuality has nothing whatsoever to do with child abuse, and if you bring up NAMBLA you're obviously a homophobe with a sick agenda?
So who are these "Catholic-defenders" you're talking about? I think they exist mostly in your imagination.
Has Mahony through his proxies provided her with funds to pay her psychiatrist?
Yes, I agree and I have no doubt that there are despicable priests who do this. It doesn't necessarily have to occur in the Confessional - I know of several incidents that have occurred when women sought out a priest for "counseling", in every instance it was a marital problem, and that "counseling" resulted in an affair. A few of the women divorced their husbands and married the priest.
There are canon laws to protect faithful from the above. Priests aren't suppose to use the knowledge they obtain in the confessional. In practice, I don't know how it plays out.
If this happened in 1970, it's a 32 year old claim.
Quite right. There is a reason for statutes of limitation.
A bump for you. The Wanderer is still the best of the breed but you probably won't find it in your local Church. It's been called 'mean-spirited','muckraking' for their years of pointing out Church problems. The LA Cardinal is one of their prime targets.
Seems like those that used Vatican II to 'open the windows' also opened the closets. Time to open those windows again and let the stink out.
I would suggest Lithium.
They won't idendify the accuser, but will happily identify the accused? In a case where a baseless allegation can ruin a career? Sounds like a sinister policy intended to generate maximum scandal, thereby selling more newspapers of course.
Would you trust Mahoney alone with your kids ??
He's already imbibed the spiritual equivalent of cyanide. I don't think Lithium can help him. He needs more powerful help:
In a very competitive field, this is truly the dumbest statement of the day.
If you're comparing Stewart to memorial societies, yes.
If you're comparing Stewart to SCI or even privately-owned funeral homes, the statement above is patent nonsense.
