"Band of Brothers" Replaying on HBO, Monday 4/8

"Band of Brothers" is coming back to HBO, starting Monday, April 8th. If you haven't seen this series, you really need to. It will give you a good view of what WWII/Europe was like. Much better than Saving Private Ryan. Looks like 9 Eastern/8 Central. They are playing Parts 1 and 2.

Watch especially for the interviews of Dick Winters, the leader of the Band, and a true hero and man among men.

And a supporter of President Bush.

I want to get them. I just dont' want to part with the $80.

It's a pity you don't have sons who would buy them for you, as mine did at Christmas, 2002. Along with a DVD player.

They are well worth going back to from time to time.

Sorry for dredging up an old post. I'm pretty new at FR and "Band of Brothers" looks very interesting. For anyone who's seen it, in its entirety, does it reenact the events of WW2 fairly, or is it littered with Hollywood liberal bias?

Hanks and Spielberg both spoke at the dedication ceremony when the National D-Day Museum opened in New Orleans. The D-Day Museum had long been Stephen Ambrose's project, so he spoke at the dedication ceremony as well. That was not long after Saving Private Ryan - and at that time, Speilberg, Hanks and Ambrose announced the HBO miniseries project.

Some of the men who are portrayed in the miniseries were in the audience that day. When you watch Band of Brothers, you get the impression that the producers crafted each hour-long episode especially for those veterans, with serious attention to getting it right. No politics, just the story as told by the men who actually lived those experiences.

Same here. I could watch the reenactment of the assault on Brecourt Manor over and over and still be impressed.

This story of the Band of Brothers was one of the most moving shows I have ever watched. I told my wife, I do not care if I ever get anything ever again for Christmas, just get me the DVD's of BOB. I only watch them if I know for sure I will not be interrupted while viewing.

I was honored enough to have one of them, Lester Hashey live not more than 2 minutes from my office. I called him the day I voted and I thanked him for serving our country allowing me the freedom to vote. He talked to me for half an hour and we made a time to get together after I returned from a trip. Unfortunately he passed away a short time later.

I attended his funeral and saw his wonderful pictures that his proud family showed. They were the originals, what an honor.

Click on the D-Day Museum link up above; the museum has a retail shop that sells (among many other interesting videos), the Band of Brothers DVD set.

They charge maybe ten bucks more than Amazon.com would, but any profit they make is certainly put to good use. I bought my DVD set from the museum; it just seemed like a better place to spend my money than Wal-Mart.
