The age that we live in requires being civilized and a lot of these Muslim run countries are anything but.The rest of the world lives in the 21st century while Islam hovers around the 14th.
.... and these.....
...and may the road to Mecca look like these...
Seriously, what was good for the Germans in Dresden, the Japanese in Tokyo, Nagasaki and Hiroshima, is good enough for the militant Islamic world. We are at peace with the Germans and Japanese, but with a two headed "Bush doctrine" we are all in danger.
Amen. However, we are like jackasses - to get our attention you need to wack us in the head with a 2 x 4. It is becoming apparent that we are going to sleep again, that 3,000 dead isn't enough. I hope that I'm wrong, that we don't wake up one morning to 300,000 or more dead, but I'm not terribly encouraged.
The point that all of these people need to consider is why we need to support both countries. IMHO, the reason is that both are bastions of democracy and freedom, immoveable rocks standing in the way of the twin evils of this world, Islamic fundamentalism and Communism. Both are small, yet immensely strong. Their strength comes not from weapons, but from their spirit. It is the same spirit that drove the generation of the Founding Fathers to fight against overwhelming odds against the world's most powerful empire, the same spirit that drove 300 Spartans to sacrifice themselves to give time for the rest of the Greeks to mobilize, the same spirit that drives anyone to fight for that most basic of human desires, freedom.
We abandon either or both of these staunch allies at our hazard. We are already in the opening stages of World War 3, whether most people realize it or not. Our enemies are the Islamic nations (most of them) and Red China. We need to wake up and realize this, to defeat the former before the latter is ready to fight. To achieve victory, we need allies, allies like Taiwan and Israel who know the enemy and have had success in holding them off, and who will never switch sides (can we really depend on Egypt and Saudi Arabia, for example?).
The anti-Israel crowd has been deluded by its hatred of Israel and its people, or perhaps by resentment over $3 billion/year of aid, or by love of the Arabs and their oil wealth. They need to see the bigger picture, similar to how we became allies of the Soviet Union to defeat Hitler. However, Israel and Taiwan are no Soviet Union - they are allies in the truest sense of the word, because we and they share similar systems of government and have similar aspirations. They are, in fact, more like the embattled England of 1940 than the Soviet Union. Let's support them the same way.
An additional consideration is the reaction among both our enemies and allies (as well as potential members of both groups): what does it say about America that it would abandon an ally of long standing, one which has our same values, in favor of those who are our declared enemies? We would lose allies in droves and gain enemies galore. A more stupid move could never be made.
There's a war on - let's roll!
But then he'd have to close half the public universities in the country.
Let's start with Berkeley.
Bacteria and viruses are invisible to all except an adequate microscope.
Over the past century, ideas have killed more humans than germs.
Now the post office has been forced to irradiate the mail for our protection.
I believe that the safety of the West may be at risk and the only cure might be the irradication of ideas.......and possibly........the irradiation of it's radical disseminators
You are exquisitely, precisely, a sage and a prophet.
Actually, I beg to differ vociferously with that statement.
Yes, I sadly have to agree with you. They didn't hit us hard enough on 9-11, it seems. The wake-up call only lasted about 2 or 3 months, and we're snoring again.
Yep. Like I said, go listen to the Steel on Steel interview.
I am sick and tired of the Crusade bashers who are ignorant of history. Muslims need to stop the propaganda and start with the truth!
