This Hansen is a genius. Has good commentary on the MidEast too. National Review on line has his columns.

Do We Want Mexifornia? No, but hows about Califorco?

I like Hanson as well.
But here he misses the major points. California's budgest deficit is due to Gray Davis, not illegal immigration.
The problem is liberalism and that it is taught at school to kids.

Yes, let Kalifornia secede. It may make it easier for the South to peacefully secede.

This situation will not get any better as long as congressmen keep foolishly thinking these illegals are going to vote for them. Why would someone who has broken the law take the responsibility of voting unless their vote was being purchased?

First time I've seen it.
Bump for later reading.

Excellent essay. Perhaps the best I've seen on this topic.

I live in CA and called PG&E the other day. When they put me on hold they played Mexican music for me. I was floored. I guess that's who mainly calls them.

This is the best written, factual, well thought out piece I've ever read on the immigrations issue.
This needs to be repeated: California...got thousands of unassimilated others, who eventually flooded into the states near-bankrupt entitlement industry and filled its newly built prisons...nearly one-quarter of its inmates are aliens from Mexico (while nearly a third of all drug-trafficking arrests involve illegal aliens). The industrious new arrivals...eroded the wages of its own domestic low-wage constituenciesthe Labor Department attributes 50 percent of real wage declines to the influx of cheap immigrant labor.
I'm still waiting for the open borders advocates to dispute the above facts.
They don't - they just sing, "We arrrre the Worrrlld...We arrrre the peeeeeopllle".

Wonderful article, very insightful. VD's earlier books on farming are also well worth reading. Unfortunately he has become convinced that war is the mother of all things and that he is a great military strategist. He's better about what he knows first hand.

This article by Hansen is a great read. It's very insightful.
What the United States needs, now, is some genius to invent a good, affordable, reliable strawberry, cherry, orange, apple, watermelon or lettuce picking robot.
Do you think we could convince the genius that invented that gyro scooter, the Segway, to do something that would really transform our society, for the better, this time? How about a robot to help patrol the border too, while they're at it? ;^)

I'm still waiting for the open borders advocates to dispute the above facts.Don't hold your breath. They just leave out the non-P.C. facts and concentrate fire on the compassionate issues.
I really enjoyed this article. Makes me think of the struggles of the Irish, Chinese, and other "other Hemispherians" borne out (willingly I might add) in order to become Americans by right of production and purpose. If these immigrants really wanted a chance at becoming accepted/legitimized in our country they wouldn't be so damn adamant about holding allegiance to their former nationality. All the problems they are having in our country stem from their unwillingness to adapt to our form of society and integrate/compromise their cultural values to that end.
Are there any clear headed mex/Americans that are preaching along these lines that could use our support?
