If Laura is for it, that creates a rebuttal presumption for me that I should be against it. But then I am a militant in favor of school vouchers, so dissonance reigns.

FYI--This is definitely WONDERFUL to read. Good for Dr. Dobson, Dr. Laura and everyone else who takes a public stand and does the right thing. The GLSEN day, just yesterday, should be enough to make any parent with an ounce of common sense, quake. GOD BLESS DR. DOBSON!

Dr. Laura does more to knock sense into America in three hours each day than the public school system has EVER done. Bravo Zulu, Doc!

" the government control which has led to propaganda masquerading as education"

Now if THAT isnt the plain truth then I dont know what is!!!
And so untold Billion$$$ has gone down that black hole of an Education System and still 4th grader kids cant read - except for the few special words they had been taught to memorize.

choice words like hamburger, Madonna, Britney Spears, etc....

There are a lot of mis-statements in that post of yours. There are no public schools in California. They are really known as fabian socialist indoctrination centers.

I took my daughter out of PS after the fifth grade (she's now a freshman in high school) and her heart for God is protected. Sadly, the public elementary school she attended had numerous (40%) Christian teachers many of whom were graduates of THE MASTERS COLLEGE in Newhall, CA. They just wanted to work as teachers, but were frustrated with the politics of the school district and thus transferred to other towns, states, etc. just to teach at a school that allowed one to say "God" . . . let alone not spew all the homosexual vitriol in people's faces.

I love California but sometime I feel if God ever gives the U.S. a suppository, He'll give it through Sacramento.

It is good that people are signing the proclamation, but are they pulling their kids out of the Government Indoctrination Centers?

I would agree that the public school system is a farce and in shambles. My daught is in 8th garde and has "subs" on a regular basis because her teachers are "in class getting their Master's"...

Dunno how YOUR emploter is, but if I was absent 20% of the time, I'd be looking for a new job!

Many (most) cannot afford private/relgious/parochial school costs@ The solution is to take back the schools and make the Dept. of Ed. accountable for curriculum delivery, and standards!

When our kids leave HS not knowing the state capitals, how a bill becomes law, cannot locate Scotlan on a globe, and cannot explain the Korean War, WW II, who Lee Harvey Oswald was, etc., WE have a problem!

Parents need to demand action, accountability, and need to see results...demand to see policies, credentials (half the "subs" do not ho,d degrees in any dsaicipline, much less one they may be teaching...oopppsss...forgot....they (subs) do "movie day"!

While I agree in principle with the article, I would like to readers to be aware that California has a surprisingly strong charter school system. By creating a new charter school, or by converting an existing public school to a charter school, the founders are exempted from much of the State's regulations and oversight.

Chartering gives the parents (who are usually the driving force behind the movement) a great deal of control in the operation of the school. Some charter schools in California have been formed to help amalgamate and network far flung home schoolers. Some charter schools have been formed in the inner cities to establish order, discipline, and solid academic goals for the students. Other charters operate in many ways like "magnet schools" where none exist.

I helped draft a charter (which is basically and school constitution and contract with the district on how the school will be operated). If anyone is interested in this sort of educational reform, I can point them in the right direction.
