Troubling Boy Scout News
Grassfire ^ | 14 April 2002 | Grassfire.net

Posted on 04/14/2002 7:16:39 PM PDT by codehawg98h

WE HAVE ALARMING NEWS TO REPORT.

During our last update, we confirmed that the United Ways of Broward County, Florida, Tucson, Arizona and Everett, Washington had withdrawn funding of the Boy Scouts.

Sadly, these are not isolated incidents. Your reports have confirmed our worst fears.

THE ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD, AND COULD SERIOUSLY UNDERMINE THE SCOUTS.

Based on your Field Reports (we received thousands-thank you!), and our team's follow up work, here is what we have learned...

The California United Ways in Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose, Santa Barbara and Woodland are ALL using policies to limit or deny funding to the Scouts.

In the Silicon Valley, numerous reports of United Way de-funding have been confirmed. In fact, one United Way staffer said, "The Boy Scouts exclusionary practices keep them from receiving funds."

Further up the coast in Oregon, we've confirmed that United Way agencies in Benton and Jackson Counties have decreased public funding due to the Scouts refusal to sign the non- discrimination policy.

In Washington State, United Ways in such counties as including King, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston and Whatcom has stopped supporting the Scouts from the general fund.

In our nation's heartland, a similar story is unfolding in states like Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin where Scouting has historically thrived. United Way agencies in these states are using so-called "anti-discrimination" policies to de-fund the Scouts.

And finally, on the East Coast, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Florida have all been confirmed as states where widespread de- funding is taking place.

Sadly, some Scouts troops are yielding to the pressure from the United Way. We have confirmed at least two reports (in California and Iowa) that indicated Scout troops have suspended their moral code of honor and decency, and signed the non-discrimination policy allowing homosexuals entry into the Scouts.

ARE THE ACTIONS OF THESE TWO SCOUT TROOPS A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME?

IF THIS PROUD ORGANIZATION IS FORCED TO COMPLY IN ORDER TO SURVIVE, WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT OUR NATION?

Yes, many, many United Way agencies are still allowing funding to the Scouts. But your field reports have confirmed our greatest fears--that many Scout troops are being bullied and intimidated into compliance.

In fact, the Washington Times recently reported that many local United Ways are denying funds to the Scouts--and your reports have added many, many more to this list!

To answer this attack, our goal is to deliver 400,000 Scouts petitions to the United Way headquarters by the end of April.

But we your help!

* * * * * * ACTION ITEM

THIS IS A CRITICAL ISSUE THAT DEMANDS 100% SUPPORT, AND WE'RE COUNTING ON YOUR TO HELP US REACH OUR GOAL OF 400,000.

That means we have less than 4 weeks to collect about 75,000 petitions.

Please, forward this update to EVERYONE in your personal directory--urging them to stand up for the Scouts by signing this important petition.CLICK HERE to sign the petition.

Thank you for your support

Your Friends at Grassifire.net

P.S. We are still compiling our official report on United Way discrimination and will be publishing that later this month. Everyone who signs the petition will receive a link to this exclusive report. Please alert your friends.

I would just like to know what father in his right mind would let his sons go to a Boy Scout Troop knowing there are gay troop leaders? Not to say all gay men are child molestors, but you know, gay priests and bishops aren't the only gay men out there that molest kids, contrary to popular belief on CNN. Anyway, just some heads up info for all you mom's and dads out there with Scouts in your family.

Regards, Codehawg

The way to fight this is to defund the United Way everywhere. So what if your local United Way gives to the Boy Souts. Make your local United Way feel some pain. Then donate money to the Boy Scouts. Also donate to Boy Scouts in areas where the United Way has cut off funding.

Doesn't the Catholic Church scandal prove that he BSA is correct to exclude gay scout masters?

There is no way in hell any dad is going to let me take his teenaged daughter to girl scout camp regardless of whether or not I can be trusted. Same with me and and gay scout leaders. I have personal experience with gay scout leaders. Fortunately for me he took NO for an answer. Many of my fellow scouts in that troop did not say no. Out of seven of my best friends from that era, four are now gay. I suppose they were born that way. It could not have anything to do with their influences during their formative years, as I hear every day that gays don't recruit and and it is ALL genetic.

The true irony here is that in junior high when I wore a scout uniform to school I was called a fag. Now as a scout leader I put on my uniform and I am a racist, bigotted homophobe.

If this is true the national scout office needs to be notified so that these troops can either be turned around or expelled from the organization.

If the Boy Scouts don't take some initiative here, then they deserve whatever grief they get. They ought to take out advertisements in every newspaper and television market. Their ads should simply consist of photos of Cardinal Law, Father Shanley, Father Geoghan, and every other child molester in the Catholic Church who has made headlines over the last few months, with the words: "THE BOY SCOUTS WERE RIGHT AFTER ALL!" emblazoned on top.

My donations now go exlusively to the "Boy Scouts of America" and I am proud to say my grandson is now a Cub Scout and soon to be a Boy Scout.

I would not give a dime to "United Way" and all the liberal organizations they eagerly seek out to represent, period!

Here's a statistic, its estimated that beween 10% to 15% of catholic priests are gay, now with the catholic church sexual molestation cases, 85% to a little over 90% were involving a small boy, not a girl. Makes you think, eh?

I thought a lot of those boys were teenagers? But anyway, the scouts are taking the responsible action.

The way to fight this is to defund the United Way everywhere...

Anyone who cares about this issue should make the effort to contact not only their local United Way offices, but in particular, those that have cut off funding to the scouts troops in Californicate and elsewhere. Let them know in the most direct terms that you will no longer be making donations to, nor supporting any fundraiser for, the United Way because of treatment of the boys scouts.

The key lies in hitting them financially. I, for one, will not ever again be contributing to the American Red Cross, nor the United Way. Not another penny. Not a blanket. Not a single can of soup. Never again will I help them in any way, shape, or form.

Since when did Scouting become dependent for its existance on the donations of the United Way? If this really is the case, it's another example of the insidious effects of a welfare mentality. The BSA needs to take full control of its own fund-raising and should tell the United Way to take a hike (so to speak.)

My employer "arm-twists" everyone once a year to "give their fair share".....and then has the token thermometer out front with dollar indicators for the goal, etc. I finally had enough of United Gay and fired off an email to the plant manager and our HR department indicating that "I have selected to donate DIRECTLY to the Boy Scouts of America this year. I do not wish to fund a group, United Way, that is nationally indicating that it wants ME to send my SON on a camping trip with men who love other men and maybe even boys. Please note that I am DOUBLING my contribution to BSA in this direct donation."

They got the message and I still(so far) am employed.

I never said it did. I'm just saying thay we should engage in payback to the United Way nationwide. Also, the United Way often uses dirty tactics to get donations. They often have drives where they try to coerce people to give in the workplace. This is especially true in the military. When my father was a Lieutenant in the Air Force he hated having to collect "donations" from enlisted men just so his commanding officer could report that 100% of his personnel had donated to the United Way.

Signed the petition although I hate giving out my name, home address and e-mail address on these things. My computer is ancient, with no fire-walls, no active virus program and I am cyber-impaired. I always worry about opening my computer up to viruses and spams.

Would someone explain to me the basis for this unholy alliance between corporate America and the UW? I know lots of folks who have been strong-armed on the job into giving, or organizing. On the public sector side, I even know a deputy sheriff who was paid to run around his department making United Way pitches. Do people actually believe the United Way is involved in charity? Isn't it just some sort of perk and travel generator for ex-corporate types? Can't your boss find some REAL charity worthy of his attention? Perhaps my real question is: are Americans really this stupid?

Click here for nationwide information on how to locate and support your local Boy Scout Council. Also, see if your local United Way has stopped funding the Scouts.

From my experience there are three possibilities:

1. A Troop could sign a non-discrimination agreement, keep it low profile, and the BSA would tell them the agreement is void and please do not do this again!

2. A Troop could sign a non-discrimination agreement, make a big deal about it, and be forced to recant or loose their charter.

3. A Troop could sign a non-discrimination agreement, enroll an openly gay leader, and then their charter would be toast (or they could expell the leader). BSA National Office acts quickly in these cases and negotiates with no one.

If you give to some group threw the United Way, The United Way takes 10% of the donation for administration cost and passes on the other 90%. Send to the Boy Scouts direct and they get 100%. The United Way plays too many games with there funds.

I wish you wouldn't hold back. Tell us how you really feel! (I agree, by the way.)

P.S. I sent you a private e-mail few days ago. Did you get it?

The United Way in my area gave up giving to the good old youth organizations: YMCA, Boys Club, Boy Scouts and now give money to liberal organizations: homeless shelters, AIDS, Hispanic organizations which all they do is point each new immigrant to the nearest welfare agency, etc.

I give directly to the UNITS. Many BSA organizations are top heavy in administration and mismanage money as mine does. I give it right to where the action is, the local boy scout troop and cub scout pack. I am an active scouter.

This is despicable. I thought it was at least improper for officers to solicit funds from enlisted men. It certainly seems to me that there should be regulations forbidding such a shakedown. BTW: The UW's tactics are not new. I told an employer to stuff their United Way balony over 20 years ago, and have NEVER given them a penny since, and NEVER will.

Not a bad idea and as a result, I'm sure your money is much more effectively utilized, but I want those that have made the decision to stand up for their beliefs - and mine - to know they are being supported and why. Yours is a great idea and, in time, I may well use your more direct funding method.

I don't know where you are employed, but if it's like some of the places I've seen, you had better be far under the PC radar when the next round of 'layoffs' occur.

Personal experience bump from being a layoff 'victim'.
