Are there any freeper fans of Jethro Tull out here?

I've enjoyed his posts in the past, but some of his criticisms of Isreal lately are a little over the top.

I consider myself a big Tull fan.Have several of their CD's and sugest "Nightcap" to anyone who hasn't gave it a listen. It's all previously unreleased songs but it's great.they're coming to Savannah next month but don't think I can make it.38 bucks for a balconey seat but I'm sure it's worth it.It'll be just in time for my 41'st birthday and I may just decide to go at the spur of the moment.

The prices for the concerts keep going up that's for sure. I haven't even got off the dime yet to check the price of the tickets for the Boston show in August at the Fleet Pavillion. I better get moving.

I purchased Nightcap about three years ago in New York City. What a wonderful treat. I didn't know Tull had created all that music in 1973 that ended up on the scrap heap prior to Ian writing A Passion Play. As the story goes, Tull was unhappy with the whole recording setup in Chateau France so he just scraped the project and went home where he started to write all over. Some of the songs Ian wrote while in France like 'Look at the Animals' and 'Law of the Bungle' which appear on the first CD on Nightcap are fabulous. Tull was at one of their musical apexes during that time. They hardly played any better. The second CD on nightcap has wonderful outtakes from the Catfish Rising and Broadsword and the Beast sessions. Yep..I agree with you. Nightcap is definately a keeper.

Could you point me to where I can find some of those statements about Israel. I sure would like to know what he has to say about it. I support Israel.

I'm not sure but I think they mentioned Edgar Winter was one of the artists appearing next week.

The live performance of Wondring Aloud sounded wonderful yesterday. It really is a favorite of many staunch Tull fans.

Common's Brawl is my fav on the Nightcap CD.I'd sure love to go to the Sanannah show, but that $38 is for a balconey seat which is all that's left.I got lucky and got a front row seat at the Alice Cooper show when he was in town and I was glad I went because he put on a hell of a show.$38 would be good for a front row seat for Tull which is what I paid to see Alice. This would be my only chance to see them though.Missed a good opportunity to see Frank Zappa years ago[for whom I borrowed my name from]now it's forever too late.

It don't matter who 's in Tull's lineup,Ian Anderson and Martin Barre are Jethro Tull. You know how some old bands try to pass off as the group with only one member of the origional band you know.

Had the privledge of seeing brother Johnny at an ABATE rally by accident.I was home on leave from the Army when some friends picked me up walking down the street and asked me if I wanted to go.I said sure and hopped in.I was talking to some of the bikers and heard Johnny Winter jamming in the background.I said ,"That sounds like Johnny winter",they told me it was and gave me an armband to get inside. It was a full moon, and he looked like he was glowing in the dark with his white skin. His tattoos sure stood out.Damn good show that was, especially being free.

Yep.. It wouldn't be the same Tull without Barre. I think one of Ian's smartest moves was to keep Martin in the band in 1980 when the other seventies members, David Palmer, John Evan and Barry Barlow were all sacked. Do you have a favorite Martin Barre guitar solo or guitar riff? There are so many to choose from. Of course there is the menasing guitar riff which opens 'Aqualung'. There is the 'Aqualung' guitar solo. There is the mighty guitar riff which opens 'Heavy Horses'. There is the guitar solo in between the two halves of 'The Poet and the Painter' portion of Thick as a Brick. There is the classic guitar riff on 'Teacher' or 'To Cry You a Song' from Benefit. There is the breathtaking cathartic wah-wah solo on 'We Used to Know' from Stand Up. I also love Martin's guitar work on many of the tracks on their latest studio album Dot Com, particularly on 'El Nino' and 'Hunt by Numbers'.

Did Iron Maiden record a version of Cross-Eyed Mary onto an Album? That would be great to hear.

One of my favorites is his work on the acoustic "Too Old to Rock and Roll" on A Little Light Music.

I'm coming in late to the thread -- I've been a huge Tull fan since 1973 -- just pre-ordered the new live album out on the 30th.

How about Crew Nights and Lights Out. With all the 1981-82 material on Night Cap and on the 20th Anniversary set you've got to wonder why Broadsword wasn't a double album.

Ah, Stormwatch, one of my personal favorites (still waiting for a good CD remaster though). Always have thought that Flying Dutchman was the epitome of Tull's music.

The 20th Anniversary set has a nice live version of Dun Ringill. I've always thought that those were about the best lyrics in the entire Tull canon (I guess it can be called that now). Reminds me of the old line about some ports in the Hebrides: "getting over the bar in bad weather is like playing poker with the devil".

If you look up Dun Ringill on Yahoo, there's a travel site covering the Scottish Highlands on which there is a picture of the ruins of Dun Ringill -- and you'll see immediately where the idea came for the song "Broadsword". It was clearly a bronze age defensive round-house. Dun Ringill is not far from Ian's fish farm (and current island home) in Scotland.
