Bump! I love those eagles swooping down through the cows out here at ~200MPH to grab dinner. They're almost as big as the cows with the wingspan.

...we have better Beer, and Cheese than VA, in spite of those other things you've mentioned.

Ah, yes. The unmentionables! I'm going to see the Governor on Sunday, and I'll make a point to thank him for trying to reduce those taxes -- not that it will do any good while we have Chvla in the legislature.

I was talking to a farmer at lunch today who is missing a calf born last night. Neither he, nor the cow, can find it anywhere this morning. Do you suppose...????

Not to brag, but we live in the country near a river and have eagles fly over our house all the time. We're surrounded by open farmland and frequently we see eagles soaring over the fields in their "brunch" mode.

They are a magnificent animal.

LOL! They were grabbing the rats eating the grain, they even made an attempt at one of my hens once. A calf is a bit too big. Coyotes hang around pregnant cows, waiting until it's time and the cow is down. If the calf was separated, they might of taken it off to feast on it elsewhere.

That was my first thought. The coyotes have come back big time in southeastern WI. The farmer said "no", but I think he'll find out diferrently.

You are both lucky! I'd love to live where I could watch these birds every day. We don't have them around Ozaukee County, although I have a personal relationship with a couple of hawks!

Education alert:

Bald used to mean "white haired or white headed", not the absence of hair. Thus the American white headed eagle.

It's quite blustery here today, I was out watching the hawks playing on the streams of air earlier.

One of the best bird shows I ever saw happened a few years ago in the fall. Two crows were pestering a great horned owl all morning. Later in the day the owl set down a long branch of an old tree on the hillside. One of the crows plopped down at the end of the branch and would periodically step a little closer and squauk. After ~10min the owl took one big hop, swung that great big left wing and smacked that crow for a home run. It tumbled so fast that old crow didn't know which way was up and he banged right into the hillside. He shook it off and flew away never looking back...and the owl just sat there for the rest of the afternoon.

Bump for the eagles. (I was out in my yard last night throwing pine cones up into the trees at all the owls that had congregated there, noisy bunch. One sits up there and taunts my dogs almost every day.)

Saw an Eagle come down and pick up a fish about 50 yards from our boat when we were fising in Tomahawk on WI River. I also have a picture of an Eagle I took two summers ago up north. It's hanging in my cube right now.

Thanks for the post!

Great story! It's a wonder that the owl just didn't eat the crow -- must not have been very hungry, or must have been a smaller owl.
