Jenin 'massacre' reduced to death toll of 56

JENIN, West Bank — Palestinian officials yesterday put the death toll at 56 in the two-week Israeli assault on Jenin, dropping claims of a massacre of 500 that had sparked demands for a U.N. investigation.

The official Palestinian body count, which is not disproportionate to the 33 Israeli soldiers killed in the incursion, was disclosed by Kadoura Mousa Kadoura, the director of Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement for the northern West Bank, after a team of four Palestinian-appointed investigators reported to him in his Jenin office.

Indeed, as I remarked on another thread, its becoming more obvious that the Palestinians killed the UN probe of Jenin when they realized they couldn't fake the massacre they invented.

Yeah, but the Massacre of 500 Palestinians in Jenin was headline news for days. The new spin the UN is putting on it will do well to fill a paragraph on page 10. And you will notice that the blame for 'never knowing exactly what took place' still lies with the Israelis for not allowing the UN's 'chosen ivestigators' into the area.

well, son of a gun, you can be sure there will be very little of this in the press, afterall the impression is those mean bad Israelies went in there and slaughtered hundreds and THAT is what people will remember so that little retraction on page 10 of the Lifestyles section of most major metros will be seen by all five people who read that section and the myth will continue that Israel is bad and Yasser Arafat is good. Even more ironic is the historical relationship between the Jews and Serbs. I just got back from Bosnia a few months ago. One of the officers in my unit, a First Lieutenant, is Jewish, and told me that the Serbs had shielded the Jews from the Nazis in WWII, and the Jews had recognized the fact in Jerusalem (something similar to the tribute paid to Oskar Schindler, I believe).

Does anybody have any knowledge of this? I had never heard it before, but the officer I mentioned was pretty certain of it, and it does make sense in light of the fact that the Nazis did use the Croats in the region to beat up on the Serbs (the Serbs being traditional allies of the Russians, and Slavic to boot, which bought them no favor with the Germans).

The Palestinians lie with no consequence. Every lie is always believed... usually in 6" headlines. The "massacre" is out in the public domain, it won't be overtaken with the truth... Which is standard operating procedure. At most peace talks, Arafat agrees to conditions, his press is good, then he returns to the West Bank and takes it all back. The taking back part is never publicized, and Israel looks like the aggressor.

The UN probe into Jenin was nothing but a bad joke. The UN has never lifted a finger to condemn Palestinian homicide bombing or to call th PLO on their lies. Arafat is always the aggrieved party, the Palestian people are always the victims, and Israel always the aggressor.

Geraldo, on Hannity & Colmes last night, said that the "only good news" in the West Bank yesterday was that Israel had "finally" pulled out of Hebron. Well, I guess "fair and balanced" means you have a Geraldo around among all their sensible, just-the-facts reporters and their conservative commentators.

Hasan Abdel Rahman, the PLO spokesmouth in DC (the one who was evicted from his office & can't find another one) claimed that there were at least 800 killed in Jenin a couple weeks ago--but this morning (on one of the cable channels) he said that it wasn't the number who were killed, but the way in which they were killed, so the Israelis were guilty of war crimes (translation: I got caught lying about the number, so I'll just change the nature of my accusations). I damn near kicked in the TV screen.
