I was watching the May Day "marches" in France yesterday, thinking this very thing. The people in the streets ARE the "immigrants" who will eventually destroy the French personna, and they don't even see it coming.

Brilliant.

You know what Pat got in the 2000 presidential election? 0.42 per cent. A small, but significant number of which were in West Palm Beach, Fla. Thank you, Pat.

Perhaps you'd like to protest this rising tide of anti-Semitism by, say, wearing skullcaps in solidarity with your Jewish brothers? Don't all raise your hands at once. Good idea, I was raised a goy, but I own a large black kippa! Can't sit on the fence, you'll get shot off it in this war!

By constraining respectable politics to an ever narrower spectrum the left-of-right-of-left-of-centre Jospin versus the right-of-left-of-right-of-left-of-centre Chirac the Euro-elites freed up their electorates to frolic on wilder shores, like M. Le Pens National Front. In the land of the bland, the one-eyed man is king. Steyn delivers another great article.

Every nail, hit square on the head.
Who said there could never be another war in Europe? I told my Dad five years ago I thought there'd be another world war starting in Europe (as a consequence of dragooning ordinary people to take part in the horrible EU social and governmental experiment so beloved of the left wing elites), and I think he might agree with me now.

But it makes for good theater.
American politics and public sentiment may be far nobler than European, but when we are served bite-sized portions of warmed-over Gore stump speeches as critiques of the slavering right-wing lunatics of the current administration and avatars of needed change, one could be forgiven for wishing that our idiots were as re-active as their idiots. Our responses to the idiocy would then have a chance to breach the mantle of leftist journalistic oppression and actually resonate with the great mass of our generally-sensible countrymen.

But are there any Germans minded to mimic those American women who took up the hijab in solidarity with their Muslim sisters? Perhaps youd like to protest this rising tide of anti-Semitism by, say, wearing skullcaps in solidarity with your Jewish brothers? Dont all raise your hands at once.Touché

Say what you like about that so-called American Taleban, John Yoko Ashram Fonda Country Joe and the Fish Walker Lindh, but at least his loopy Marin County parents put him through terrorist training school on their own nickel and not at the taxpayers expense. ROTFLMAO!!!

STEYN:
Despite? Try because of. In December in this space, I lent my support to Mickey Kaus, the thinking conservatives thinking liberal, who advanced the theory that welfare causes terrorism. Among the examples I cited was Zacarias Moussaoui, the so-called 20th hijacker, who became an Islamofascist nutter while living on welfare in London. What else is there to do all day? Go down the pub? Lie on the floor listening to Capital FM? If youre putting in a ten-hour grease-monkey shift at Fat Daves Auto Body, youre too wiped out to wipe America out. But in the fetid public housing of London, Paris, Frankfurt and Rotterdam the government will pay you to sit around the flat all day plotting world domination.
Its a scheme worthy of a Bond villain: flood high-unemployment Europe with unassimilated low-skilled young men, whom the state is obliged to put on welfare just to keep them from rioting, and hey presto, your enemies will be funding their own downfall ON HER MAJESTYS SOCIAL SERVICE. Say what you like about that so-called American Taleban, John Yoko Ashram Fonda Country Joe and the Fish Walker Lindh, but at least his loopy Marin County parents put him through terrorist training school on their own nickel and not at the taxpayers expense. At the moment, alongside the ranks of Europes terrorist welfare queens, Jihad Johnny has the distinction of being the Wests only private-sector Islamabaddy.

But look on the bright side: Europe may be mean-spirited and violent, but at least its not American.
