Today I have written to four newspaper reports/columnists some in Washington State and some in California. George Skelton of the LA Times had an article (the article) today on Ernon and the G W Bush/Cheney connection. I sent him a pointed email on what I saw as the real story and real facts and he sent back the following.
Mr. XXXXX,
I guess you're referring to the CalISO when it was
controlled by special interests--the power industry--and
before Davis, in effect, seized it.
By the way, I am not an investigative reporter. The Times
does have investigative reporters. I'm a columnist writing
about state government and politics. Sometimes Democrats
like what I write. Sometimes Republicans like what I write.
Whatever,
George Skelton
I sent him a letter quoting segments of a Cal ISO board meeting of March 24th just before the July 3rd incident that showed how they were doing a number of major policies that Gov Davis had requested. Maybe he can be enlightened. Somebody has to try.
Even though it is a dispicable approach, I remember when during the Clinton impeachment all the democratic talking heads said everyone cheats on their wife, its no big deal trying to divert attension from the purjury charges, it had a big effect. Many times the democrats come out with the everybody does it defense. Should republicans point out that according to documents Cal ISO, Reliant, Dynegy, Enron, PowerEx, Puget Sound Energy, LADWP, (i.e. everybody) was gaming the system? I don't think so, but that is an option. I would rather state that the Cal ISO should have been above these kinds of actions.
Actually, his response is an example of polylogism [many kinds of logic], a construct invented by the communists of the last century. What you hear is, "That may be true for you, but it's not for me". "Proletariat Logic is different than Bourgoise Logic", etc... What it means is "I refuse to acknowledge the truth of the matter, regardless of the facts."
Speaking of facts,
These last two bother me. If Davis is screwing up so badly and using the California Constitution for toilet paper, why is the legislature continuing to grant him unprecedented powers?
I'm not suggesting Simon try to cut Kali's cap gains tax. Quite the contrary. Instead, he should push Bush and (hopefully) a GOP Congress to cut the national cap gains tax.
Kali thereby reaping the benefit...
Ventura 2000 Presidential Election results
Ventura County is between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties, both of which voted for Gore, on the horizontal coast of CA, with these three counties surrounded by Bush supporting counties. Starting from the south, Ventura is the fourth coastal county after San Diego, Orange, and LA counties, and is about 1/4 of the way up from the southern end of the state.
