Reagan Wanted Marijuana Legalized
email ^

Posted on 05/06/2002 6:21:05 PM PDT by Texaggie79

In newly released audiotapes of Ronald Reagan's broadcast commentaries, Reagan made clear his view that individuals should be allowed to use marijuana if they wanted to.

The Reagan broadcasts come from the days before Reagan became president and were believed to be lost.

But in the new audio set "Reagan In His Own Voice" the unedited version of Reagan's most controversial broadcasts are now available.

In one broadcast, Reagan declared it was an individual's choice if they chose to smoke marijuana, as long as they were aware of the health risks.

Reagan had a strong Libertarian streak, though he also held strong views about prayer in school, abortion, sex-ed in schools and other social concerns.

They're probably too stoned to have noticed.

Surprised you had time to notice yourself. Shouldn't you be peering through the drapes at "those pesky kids," or spying on your neighbors, or reporting somebody to the local "authorities" for building their deck 1 inch below official building code standards? Or are you merely content to sit there in your undershirt with your six pack of beer while complaining about "those damn marijuana cigarette smokers?"

Reagan? The same Reagan that had the Caribbean locked down in a naval blockade in the 80's to stop drug traffic?

I was boarded on my sailboat several times by Customs, Coast Guard, DEA, etc.

And now we find out he wanted to turn the other cheek?

The Customs guys drove around in cat-hulled fast-boats built by Don Aronow of Cigarette. Guess who else had one of these boats?

Boy, this really ought to mess with a few of the "social conservative's" heads.

Why? Because they disagree with something that RR said? What's so unusual about that? No matter who is president and no matter how much a person may respect and admire him, there will be areas of disagreement.

I have no problems with riffraff being forcibly removed from the community.
They're detrimental to property values and are a bad influence on the children.

Well maybe if you weren't caught sailing in with Heroin smuggling Hatians, maybe you wouldn't have been boarded by every agency except the FDA! What the hell were you involved in!

Reagan also used to hang out with commies -- then he got wise.

Yeah, but didn't these comments came after he "got wise" - to use your words.

The point is Reagan was an open minded, thoughtful person who would change his mind as his understanding grew. I don't think there is any doubt that he was against legalizing pot by the time he was President.

Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't, but then again George Bush senior was against taxes untill he was elected. He always claimed he was pro life, but Bush had no problem putting a pro-choice judge on the supreme court, someone that he knew Reagan had reviewed and rejected for being a judicial activist. It might have been politics, it have been a change in opinion. We will never know, but I would like to hear those tapes and see what Nancy says about it all.

Gee, thanks Ron. Forutnately, I'm not the type to wait for somebody else's permission to live my life.

No doubt?! HA! I see we are supposed to take your rampant speculation that Reagan was against MJ by the time he was president, because why, you said so? We're not supposed to doubt your speculation, but we are supposed to doubt what the man said on tape?

What is it like in your strange little world?
