New Web Site, Envirotruth.org, Brings Truth to the Environmentalist Movement

WASHINGTON - PRNewswire - May 6 Today, The National Center for Public Policy Research announced the launch of http://www.envirotruth.org/, a web site dedicated to injecting badly needed balance into the debate about our environment.

"For too long, environmental groups have seized the world stage and the public's attention by distorting facts, bending the truth and even committing acts of terrorism against innocent citizens," said Amy Ridenour, President of The National Center for Public Policy Research, a non-partisan Washington, D.C. think tank. "Envirotruth.org sheds light on the environmentalist movement, offering information about their tactics, terrorist acts and fundraising machines."

Envirotruth.org presents a section chronicling numerous acts of ecoterrorism carried out by radical environmentalist groups against innocent civilians, even offering quotes from the group's leaders describing their cause as "a jihad." The site also presents novel information about the issues upon which environmentalist groups such as Greenpeace have built fundraising machines, such as the debate surrounding biotech food and global warming. It also chronicles violations of advertising practice standards by environmental organizations, many of which had ads that have been labeled as "misleading" or "unsubstantiated."

Envirotruth.org links to information about "high-powered fundraising, the litigation and the public relations machine" carried out by the environmental movement. It lists scare tactics and questionable facts that in 1999 helped environmentalist groups raise more than $3.5 billion in donations, nearly doubling their 1992 totals.

"If you want to know what the environmentalist groups like Greenpeace really think, just ask one of their founding members," said Ridenour. Envirotruth.org offers quotes from leading experts such Dr. Patrick Moore, co- founder of Greenpeace who has since left the group. Moore said that "Rather than promoting unilateral boycotts that are based on misinformation and coercion, organizations like Greenpeace should recognize the need for internationally accepted criteria."

The National Center for Public Policy Research is a communications and research foundation dedicated to providing free market solutions to today's public policy problems. We believe that the principles of a free market, individual liberty and personal responsibility provide the greatest hope for meeting the challenges facing America in the 21st century.

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."
--H. L. Mencken

Sound like Global Warming and other environmental 'doom & gloom'?

I honestly believe that most of the people that donate to Greenpeace, Sierra Club, and other environmental groups have no idea about their actual agenda and tactics. I think they honestly believe that the organizations are only out there doing good by protecting baby seals from clubbing and saving the Panda Bear (which is actually a giant racoon).

I totally agree.

My late mother-in-law would write a check at the drop of a hat to any organization that put a baby "anything" on their letterhead.

I found a report somewhere that commented on the salary range of the the so-called evnironmental "leaders" being in six figures and the % of donations that actually went to the cause and she gave it up cold turkey.

Next time one of those huggers climbs a tree I hope this new outfit sends someone out to chop it down.

What's good for the goose..........

A Piece Of Greenpeace Action

Would-be contributors who get telemarketing calls from Greenpeace could be doing more to line the pockets of professional fundraisers than the cause they think they're supporting. Greenpeace made the Indiana Attorney General's list of organizations that use professional fundraisers for two eyebrow-raising "fundraising campaigns, one of which estimates the organization's cut of the fundraiser's take at 40 percent, and the other, at just 1 percent," Fort Wayne News Sentinel business writer Linda Lipp writes. Lipp, who says she has given to Greenpeace herself, notes: "I don't make that much, and I don't like to see 99 percent of what I give going to support professional fundraisers."

The Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance web site, which "contains information on hundreds of not-for-profit groups across the country," reports that "Greenpeace has refused requests for information," Lipp writes. That's not too shocking: The State of New York reported early this year that Greenpeace saw less than a third of the funds it "raised" in New York in 2001 -- netting just over $20,000 (23.6%) -- while its fundraisers kept over $85,000.

Groups including MADD, PETA, and the Center for Food Safety had similar fundraising issues in New York last year. For much more on the finances of Greenpeace and 27 other leading anti-consumer activist groups, visit ActivistCash.com.
